Fantastic, so clear, in no hurry - I'e been hunting more many decades like yourself but there is always more to learn - especially as you age (i'm now 60) and I now carry my super lightweight carbon fibre tripod about along with an unbelievably lightweight fold up stool not only to rest, but lying in wait the most comfortable fold up stool and tripod set up at the correct hight in front of me. Setting up your shooting position is of fundimental importance, and when done correctly will have you hit as it is 80% of getting that hit.  The other 20% is the sight picture, breathing, and trigger control; the rest.  
I always found useful to think of the correct stance as bayonetting the target being 20m or 800m away.  Just gives that natural body stance/position from the start, and invariably pretty much has you there.  More is fine tuning with little shuffles.  It is setting up the gun platform right, right at the start.  Have it wrong and then invariably people twist and contort the gun platform to fit, which leads to disaster.  From that alignment plant the rifle's bipod, or rucksack support, or even quad sticks.  
The body gun platform should be pretty solid with limited flexibility; it is not a gymnastics table.  Guns behave best in a solid gun carriage and not in a stress contorted spring hanger.  To find that natural body position just takes doing it often enough for the brain to understand what is wanted, and then "bayonetting" comes naturally.  A lot of people new too shooting just haven't "carried" a rifle often enough, so they just don't know.  Most will instinctively know how to take up a bayonet stance.  
Anyhow, always love how you try to break things down.  Most people just need to practice more, and practice field conditions away from the bench.
Taking a deliberate shot takes time.  Sure, well practiced can be swift, but still requires time...for all those checks that "deliberate" demands.  The time to set up, and the time to take the shot.  A good stalk will get into a position to give that time.  If the game is gone, then it was going to go anyway.  Faster than "deliberate" is a snap shot, which has far higher risk even by those who are well practiced.  Just like fighter pilots of WW2, game never flies straight, stays still, for more than 20 seconds, for they are being hunted.
