You  can say what you like ,nobody comes near the BBC in television production, and  quality of its programme's!.

And the award goes to the bbc the best in documentaries

Those color photographs actually brought me to tears, I can't believe how old they are

I love how inspired and truthfully she speaks of Ireland and its people, back then people still were ancient Celtic and kept these ancient Celtic traditions and culture alive and totally unchanged due to the isolation, just for centuries but literally for thousands of years. I love how she mentioned ' They are so noble and speak like poets although they are considered peasants.' It is true the Celts always had that in they're blood, even if most of them never ever wrote things down which in my point of view isn't necessary at all, their ancient oral tradition of passing things on is much better and has survived to this day.

Albert Kahn amazing human.

One of the most wonderful documentaries to date. Thank you for uploading.

The old recordings and photographs are absolute Gold. I adore the footage............ recording and photography is probably the greatest invention of humanity. I am sad though that this documentary has been slightly sped up and it runs too fast to appreciate anything so had to slow the speed down to look at the footage long enough to appreciate it. I wonder if Khan's footage is available 'raw' .

Thanks for sharing this entire series. Truly an amazing man Albert Kahn. What a gift to humanity. Thanks for sharing Herman.

Thanks for uploading this story of one of the best, and yet virtually unknown, pioneers of photography. And congratulations to the BBC for making this documentary.

Paris 1899 is my preferred time travel destination! Why haven't I heard of this man before!?

Thanks so much for posting. This is gold, for all humanity.

BBC is awesome. American TV producers need to watch and learn.

Very interesting. Being Irish the Claddagh photos were particularly fascinating ...and the women in Red! Thanks for the chance to see this.

A nice insight into the lost world that existed just a hundred years ago.

fantastic doc

thanks for making this available

This keeps reminding me of a colouring book I had at 5, in the 50's. It had people in their national costumes from around the world. I was most   impressed with the one from Persia, it seemed so exotic, shoes with those curled up toes. Now of course there is no Persia, it's Iran, how can a name go from Persia to Iran? Persia is such a gorgeous word! It seems such a shame.

Thanks for the documentary

This is such an incredible time capsule of a world about to disappear.  It always seems that just as discovery, openness and global enlightenment are about to reach a pinnacle, man finds a way to suddenly reverse all progress in the most catastrophic way.  In this case, that would have been the First World War.  With this video, we can admire this "Archive of the Planet" during these years of "The Proud Tower."    Thank you so much for sharing this series.

Very interesting documentary. Images and videos are too much worth a document, incredible pictures. Thank you for posting this.

The Thing I find Ironic about how all these captains of industry back then and even today is how they idolized and bemoaned the loss of "The old traditional ways of life " that were being slowly erased by technology and progress and wars and political upheaval when they wear/are largely the force driving the destructive machine that was and is responsible for whipping these traditional ways of life and institutions from the face of the earth!
