Bruno Hashimura San Juliano was 23 years old and pursuing his dream of studying medicine when his life was tragically cut short. The student was shot and killed on September 30th, following a traffic dispute in Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo state. He was on his way to university, where he was to take a second-year exam, when he was murdered by Marcos Paulo Fujarra de Oliveira, a 28-year-old military firefighter.

According to a witness interviewed by investigators, after an argument that began at the entrance of a tunnel and continued for about 500 meters, Marcos broke the window of Bruno's car, pulled out a gun, and fired five times. Four shots hit the student, who managed to get out of the vehicle and run for help, but died in the hospital. “What happened to him was cowardly. He had no chance to defend himself,” stated Lorena Coimbra Coelho, the victim's widow.

The firefighter was in the car with his wife and nine-month-old son. The defense alleges that Marcos believed Bruno was trying to rob him and claims the student attempted to attack him with an object. This version did not convince the police. According to the police chief, "No objective elements were identified that demonstrate that the victim announced a robbery or displayed a firearm." A pocketknife was found in Bruno's car.

The student left behind a two-year-old son and was the only child of Soraia Oliveira Hashima. Emotionally distraught, the mother lamented the loss and said she wished she could trade places with him. "I wanted to ask God for the opportunity to trade places with my son," she declared. Bruno was dedicated to his family and dreamed of becoming a healthcare professional, as shown by the lab coat he kept with pride.

Marcos was arrested in the act but released the following day. After an appeal by the Public Prosecutor's Office, he was arrested again and taken to the Romão Gomes military prison in São Paulo. The case also brought to light records of at least three other incidents involving traffic disputes in the last eight years, in which the firefighter allegedly pointed a gun at other drivers. The defense claims these investigations were closed.

The officer is also subject to a restraining order preventing him from approaching his ex-wife. In another incident, a former neighbor accused him of physical assault after an argument over a parking space.

Soraia received the team at the condominium in Jacareí where Bruno grew up and showed them the firefighter's uniform, symbolizing the fulfillment of her son's dream. She hopes the firefighter remains in prison, but says she is not seeking revenge. “Besides the justice I ask for, I hope he is overwhelmed with love. With so much love. And that he has awareness and clarity about what he did,” she stated.
