One year ago, MatPat host of Game Theory, retired. To commemorate his legacy, I wanted to answer one of the longest running Sans Undertale questions out there.

Could he beat Ness Earthbound? Or was sans ness all along?
Well? I can tell you one thing? This fight, Isn't close in a very interesting way.

& In true Game Theory fashion, this video is also a week late (3/9/25 was the actual anniversary)

So to compensate, I’ve hidden a few clues in the past few videos, for our next big release.

I’ll heart the first reply who gets it.

Happy hunting theorists! :_STOCKS:

Frisk and the player raging after dying 69,00000 times to Sans

Ness: I fear no man.

Ness: Why am i hearing Dr. Andonuts Rage?

sans: *nah i like to call that megalovania kid.

@suitcaseofsmarts 1 year ago

hold on, why would sans fight himself? they'd clearly just have a rap battle filled with puns

At the end of Earthbound, Ness and his friends left their robot bodies as souls and returned back to their time period, so there’s the possibility of him having some control over his own soul to begin with.

Sans would never actually fight Ness thought because Ness is a genuinely good-hearted kid that Sans would like and get along with and want to hang out with and protect from the knowledge of the whole multiverse nonsense if it ever came to that lol

Ive learned 3 ways to beat most Sans aus from these videos:
1. Have stamina surpassing Sans at his most determined
2. Have some kind of soul or spirit manipulation
3. BE A FUCKING GOD AND MANIPULATE HIS REALITY TO YOUR WHIM

Correction
Just because magic attacks the soul doesn't mean armour doesn't matter
Reminder, wearing armour does increase your defense in undertale

The fact that matpat never talked about earthbound after that makes me sad… it’s my favorite game too

So basically Ness' power level is so insane that he follows the same logic as Goku where he can just power through people breaking the rules of the universe

"Nice 'complex hax ability', now check this out"

@xman2304 1 year ago

I believe that smash bracket's video of Ness' powers shows that Ness is able to win without much of an issue especially with his ability of complete fighting mastery whenever he fights any enemy.

If we're considering game mechanics, aren't the PSI attacks unavoidable? I feel like that's important

@BagTheGoober 1 year ago

You forget his body has sharp instincts that do things on their own for him (the gameplay equivalent is auto fight) this is canon and would make dodging sans' attacks a lot easier.
