No-one tells a more honest brutal story than Glaswegians,no moaning,no blaming, they take it on the chin and move on, very good luck to you, much respect 🤪

I'm from Paisley, just outside Glasgow, and can totally relate to Derek's story. I grew up in the eighties and saw lots of knife crime and the unnecessary death of many young guys that I grew up with. The atmosphere of fear fuelled by drugs and violence was horrendous. I look forward to reading Derek's book and wish him all the best for the future.

You are not a bad example, you are good example of what a bad example was...
Go bless you Derek

This one of the best podcasts ever. Brutally honest. Thanks. Keep up the great work Shaun and best of luck for the future Derek.

Something needs to be done NOW! My very good pal, has been in jail 18 years, after getting 3.5 years in jail on an I.P.P sentence, no violence during the offence, no violence in 18 years whilst in jail. He's lost his mum and Dad and his brother since his been in jail, it's a fucking liberty.

I wish Derek every success in the future. He has held his hands up for the mistakes he’s made and more than done the time in every way. He should now be proud of what he has become and I think he will help people with his positive personality and remorse he shows for the bad he has done.

One of the best so far. Coming from Glasgow myself and raising my son on my own in a sectarian town, it was the hardest job to keep him away from trouble. Derek, you're a credit to yourself, and what you're doing is teaching others that there are alternatives. Good luck to you, I'll buy your book for sure.

Glasgow violence has always been on a completely different level to anywhere else

Brilliant podcast again , just wanted to say, Derek you've had some kind of life man , I'm 55yo guy and from eastend of glasgow , it is miraculous that Derek has turned things around to change his ways and found himself able to help people in similar situations , think you could be a major asset to others and a bigger person doing this kind of work , your knowledge will free people.
Best of luck Derek and same to Shaun & Jen .

Close friend died in a swimming accident & i know how much that messed me up the next 15 years of my life, it was only "good" treatment in rehab that helped me realise i was on a death march for most of those years, going deeper / darker every year, drink / drugs / aggression / anger.
I was unknowingly, trying to convince / prove to myself that i was not frightened of death, minds work in weird ways, especially as young teenagers . When proffessional people disected my life / actions it become even clear for me. If only everyone could get treatment earlier , it would help so many boys... treatment only seems to be offered as a last resort

Listening to these stories is fast becoming a habit for me, they’re so interesting I’m only pausing for a cup of tea. I drove up from Cornwall yesterday and listened to the whole Mark Dempster story.
I was hanging about with some Glaswegians living in England in the late 80’s & 90’s and they used to tell me stories about what it was like “up the road” & I met some very colourful characters from there through them. Some people like to embellish their stories & even lie to look the bad man, you can tell this fella is laying it on the line & even leaving stuff out, there’s no need to lie with his story. Hope he writes his book and has success with it, who knows maybe there’s a film in there somewhere too. Respect to him for helping weaker guys out too, that proves he’s not who he was.
