It's been a long time. I have been recuperating and been taking things slowly. But now I am more or less back in shape (except I am out of shape, working on that). I haven't watched any V3 Bolt Action -videos in order to not get contaminated about different metas. We've had slow gaming sessions here, mostly once a month (last sunday every month is gaming day, some play Kings of War and I play Bolt Action).
Now I have some games under my belt with all of my three armies and am somewhat up to date on the new rules. And today after two games (and 6 hours) playing my germans and all their toys, I have a new favourite weapon: flakvierling! That 4 autocannon beast just shreds enemy infantry units! Also my Nebelwerfer was an MVP against the brits today, scoring many 6's and just obliterating things! It hit twice the enemy tank and managed to do some damage thrice (hitting a spotter next to the tank thus clipping the template to its side armour) to it but alas not destroying it!
I like these new rules. Especially new shooting rules on hitting, lot less to remember (have been quite a job to unlearn the old ones). And since there are a lot less things to remember about hitting, I'm okay with the new 4+ base hitting. Also really clever way to get snipers and at-guns some more bang for the buck because now 3+ is luxury. Cover saves are also nice, really like my new soviet scouts on hard cover (really hard to get them out). Also really like the new MMG-rules, now they are playable with their dakka (and same goes even more to the HMG!). But also like that MMG's on tanks got nerfed, so no super-dakka-tanks. Of course there is a debate here that is it better to get some extra LMG's than an MMG. Also I really, really like the new spotter rules! CQC got much more dangerous since everyone hits simultaneously if not in defence cover. Of course there are a lot of small tidbits to remember but nevertheless I am pleased with the new rules.
The new way to build armylists is also somewhat a breath of fresh air, since you can't really make an all-around "one of everything" -lists. Now one really needs to think what you want. We have seen a lot less tanks (or more tanks) overall, since now you can't just take one tank per list. Of course this hinders my list building somewhat since I don't have but one MMG and Medium mortar per army, so no mortar spam (yet). And now one has to really consider that without any AT-capacity you could get royally screwed if the enemy has any armoured vehicles (and that means that there are at least two). And since panzerfausts got a really hefty price increase, it gets really dicey. I haven't really made my mind about panzerfaust prices, I can see the reasoning with that but 15 point for a short-range one-shot just feels expensive.
With many platoons you get many officers and it really have changed the way we play officers. That +2 morale bonus is a thing you really want to keep up with your advancing army (because veterans with one pin just wont do anything in our experience). Also we are using quite a lot of their "snap to action" -commands, as did you in this game. One officer giving firing orders to several MMG's to lay suppressing fire is just so cinematic! Also since there is no more "small unit" -rule when determined to hits our officers have gotten buffier. Today I playd maxed out veteran assault rifle officers that charged the enemy head on, while other times those inexperienced loner officers in the back lines are more appropriate way of spending points. Or should I say, saving points.
I do like that there is no more the "exceptional shot" -rule. It was nice, but it could really ruin ones day. I like more that the sniper is the only one that gets to kill more specific target and that has been designated the officer/NCO. And that the weapons team don't just get destroyed with a single shot. Even more reason to wield your MMG's!
As you can see, there was a lot that has accumulated past the couple of months while dormant. Especially since the new rulebook.
About the video: when shooting tanks on cover, after hitting you could just see the cover save before calculating things. I think the rulebook recommends the same. Since if the cover save saves, then all that pondering about armour values and weapon penetrating has been a waste.
PS. It seems you are running low on 6's, so I am going to send you some more crates of them from here.
For Immersion I think the squad that has he objective/Informat should Not be Shot at with mortars/Explosives. I mean who is to say he does not die/gets destroyed in the Blast?
