Vince is 'OUR' JMJ!!

OK, so let me get this right...Vince Clarke, (My frickin' synth hero) his first synth for him to hear and be blown away by the song, was the Korg M-500sp (Micro preset). That is the lead sound you hear on the OMD song he mentions ('Almost').
I also had this synth back then, and it cost £200
Back then, even though to own a synth, was amazing (Thanks Dad)but I kind of felt like it was a 'poor relation' of synths, but then saw OMD using one, and was going "OMG, OMD ARE USING MY SYNTH!!" watching TOTP. And as if that wasn't enough, now I find out that Vince was inspired by it!!
It still sits here, 40 years later, still working, and will still do those OMD riffs you all know and love.

Legend

Great interview. Shame that the video is so dark.

I like this lighting. Focuses on the subject.

Thank you for posting - great interview!

warning, last 10 seconds actually has any synth sounds.

ultravox were smarter for drummachine tempo settings , instead of using a marking  Warren used a voltage meter to read the tempo pot ,accurate and  brilliant

If you have the chance to sit in a room and talk to a legend like Vince Clarke, you really should try not to have shit sound, lighting and camera work.

Is that a 12 voice oberheim sem?

Could of turned a light on son!
