Despite the brilliance of every single person on that stage, including Buddy of course, this also makes me feel quite sad as I know we will never see the likes of such amazing music ever again 😢

L-R, Tpts: Mike McGovern, Chuck Schmidt, Marc Ohlson, John Marshall.  Tbns: Glenn Franke, Dale Kirkland, George Moran,  Sax: Steve Marcus, Andy Fusco, Chuck Wilson, Gary Pribek, Greg Smith, Piano: Bob Kaye, Bass: Tom Warrington

Great band

Any funk fans in here ? Steve Arrington from Slave was the drummer in an Ohio lounge act called “The Murphys “ w Tom Warrington on keyboards .

Great video.  This whole band is just KILLING IT.  Buddy is on fire.  In the mid-70s I had the pleasure to play drums for a couple of years with Chuck Schmidt and another excellent trumpet, Fred Irby, who became the director for the Howard University Jazz Ensemble.  Didn't know how lucky I was.

The way Buddy Rich drove the band on "Machine" is just so powerful! His drumming made the music so exciting to listen to and brought up the level of the music to a new high. This is a very tight Big Band with amazing soloist who because of Buddy, had to give 100% to the music. Buddy was always about the music first! This is what I learned the most from Buddy with my Big Band is to hire the best musicians and give 100% to the music all the time. I`m one of the very few drummers who has a Big Band to play this type of music for the people today. Here is a link you can check out of my Ken Loomer Big Band trying to keep this music alive and having musicians who love playing exciting swinging arrangements https://youtu.be/MM-OXmNhzO0 Thanks so much for posting this video of the great Buddy Rich Big Band and his amazing musicians.

Buddy has the same killer (force) look on his face that he had at Northsea Holland July ‘78. This brings me back to when I saw them live so many times. I can’t believe Buddy is gone now almost 4 decades.

Saw the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1977, 1978 and 1986. All great concerts :D

Good Lord!  The end of “Machine” the last track is immense!  Fire!

Thanks so much for this!! Werent they all sooo great?? Nothing like them now and in 1966 Birmingham Town Hall he showed me how much I needed to do to be any sort of Drummer!!!

Buddy was on fire! Sounded like the old days. He liked that trumpet

GODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   ALL

Steve Marcus killing it, as always !

Incredible footage. Buddy is a treasure! That band is quite amazing too…the afros, tee shirts and love handles 😅 add a special 70’s je ne saids quoi!😅😅

Awesome!  I've only seen a couple of tunes from this set, so it's great to hear and see the whole thing.  Nice!

Great post, many thanks to you for sharing!

Such great JAMS... I have loved Buddy Rich since as far back as I can remember...
