A quest for vintage plastic toy animals brought me here. Thanks for your entertainment and education!

"French ivory" IS celluloid! 😄
I've just watched a historians video about the vintage plastics, especially celluloid and he said, that "French ivory" was the marketing term that celluloid objects were often sold under. The invention of celluloid is actually a result of the search for a replacement for ivory, because there weren't enough elephants to sustainably satisfy the demands of production. Also: celluloid itself is transparent, too. It was colored. Otherwise celluloid film couldn't have been used for fotography and cinematography.
There are no wild elefants in France!🙃

Half the things in my house are Bakelite: black telephones; a 1940s Motorola TV with round screen; tons of luncheon cutlery; lots of pots and pans with black Bakelite handles; an RCA Victor record-player; tons of records from the 30s and 40s; a classic Osterizer blender from the 40s for mixing drinks; and pens in my desk. Love your show!

Any fan of Cinema Paradiso is a friend of mine!

Yes Bakelite video please…

Thanks! I learned a lot! I came here to learn a bit about Bakelite. I’ve seen Bakelite bowls, electrical junction boxes, and radios.
You’re very pretty. Nice video. Thanks again.

Mirror back is celluloid

You are excellent at using descriptive text to sell items... That is the secret for items going high at auction as well.

Thank you. Made IDing some straight razors much easier.

You are really knowledgeable about vintage items. Loved this. - Ruthie

Thank you so much for the in-depth video you just helped me buy and sell my first ever piece of Bakelite! The smell test is where it’s at!
