Sometimes your schedule isn’t even the problem. Your soul is just busy.
Your mind is constantly moving. You’re thinking about what needs to get done, what’s next, what you need to fix, who you need to respond to, what you need to accomplish… and before you know it, you’ve gone through an entire day without truly being still before the Lord.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
There is an order to the Christian life: Him first.
Not because spending time with God is another task to add to an already overwhelming schedule, but because His presence is where our souls learn to become still again.
Practically, this may mean intentionally carving out time with the Lord in the morning before the noise of the day begins. Before the phone. Before the emails. Before social media. Before everyone else has access to you, give God access to your heart.
And sometimes it means ending your day with Him too. Slowing down in the evening, opening your Bible, praying, worshipping, journaling, or simply sitting before Him and allowing everything you carried throughout the day to come back into His presence.
It doesn’t always have to look perfect. Some seasons are genuinely busier than others. But we have to be careful that “busy” doesn’t slowly become a lifestyle where everything continually gets our attention before God does.
When your soul feels scattered, overwhelmed, distracted, or spiritually dry, sometimes the answer isn’t adding more.
Sometimes it’s returning to the One Thing.
Seek Him first. Let everything else find its proper place after that. 🤍
