Dungey coming back 5 years later is one of the coolest things Ive seen in the sport. First it was just a couple races, then it turned into the whole outdoor season. He was so so close to a podium that year too. Bad ass.

RC BLASTING around the OUTSIDE of JS7 at Red Bud 07 is eternally etched in my brain. Ricky outdoors was untouchable. Villopoto was a savage as well.

They say motocross riding is the most physically demanding thing to do, and to do it from the time you're 5 years old to the last season Ricky Carmichael was aged in his last race, that's actually a long time. The fact Kickstart Kenny won a Supercross champion this past season is amazing in itself let alone being able to compete full time at his age, and on paper he's still got tons of life to live.

it's interesting seeing this now because riders are racing into their 30's more than before, and that's with more racing on the schedule too. tomac and ferrandis just retired, but they along with anderson, webb, barcia, malcolm, plessinger, and others are still racing in their mid 30's. aside from reed and windham in the past, seeing multiple top 10 level guys race this long was unheard of

Haha, I turned professional at the ripe age of 26!! Mostly due to financial reasons and when I raced my first Pro off-road, it was the Superstition 250 mile desert race in 112*F heat in August! Not uncommon but definitely not the norm. At 54, I got off the YZ250R 2 smoker, and went back to road bikes. I absolutely loved racing and the rush and adrenaline. I’m 65 now, lost a leg in 2022 from a bone infection and I still ride sport bikes, but no racing. Still love off-road, and the superbikes.

Its like 2013 davi millsaps. That year he was on a rockstar suzuki and was tearing the field up. Hurt his knee halfway through the season and started to slow down. Changed teams and got healthy enough to ride again and won the monster energy cup and then the season wore him down and he called it quits right after

People only care about winners, and there are plenty of unknown names that have loads of surgeries, and couldn't reach top due to injuries and surgeries etc. it's a crazy sport.

Bubba getting knocked down at the start yet passing every other rider to win the moto is a vivid memory for me. I don't like the moniker "greatest of all time" because time isn't over. RC is the best champion so far and Bubba is the fastest racer so far. IMHO

Fear. The crazy young have none. When I was a novice a track buddy fellow motocroser was in the 125 qualifying heat before me on his CZ. On the fast last turn he crashed and his throat made contact with the end of an upright handle bar. He flopped like a fish out of water for a moment and the ambulance crew took him away. He recovered in the hospital but my mind had not recovered and remember doing quite poorly in my heat.
