Its called a volcanic or nuclear winter (both names work decently as the effects are pretty much the same), which is a global cooling phenomenon caused by volcanic eruptions and the sulphur in the air create droplets that block out the sun. Pretty much everything dies except some preppers. Toba, which was bigger than the biggest yellowstone eruption caused a 6-10 year long volcanic winter. Safe to say you need a LARGE amount of food and tools to create communities after the winter ends.

At this point, I think Glen might be the biggest liability if SR was stuck in a bunker during a Nuclear Winter...

Fun fact.  I live north of Yellowstone in Montana.  If it goes off with full force, I have about 10-15 minutes before my life ceases.  Will be shorter, as I'm just going to drive towards it to get it over with quicker.  You will see massive food shortages as plants won't be able to grow, killing off animals as well.  Not to mention all the green house gasses you'll be breathing in.
