There was a multiplayer piledriver in the arcade version. Everyone grabs onto the boss and double busters the boss into the ground

"Light hearted fantasy"

Five minutes early we had a cut scene of a dude face melting off.

Like that Matt called the scorpions "scorponoks", shows that he's a true man of culture. Yeessss...

Hey Matt, I was a designer on Conan for PS3/360 which came out around the same time as Beast Rider. Our studio, Nihilistic Software, was in the same area as Secret Level, and we would cross-playtest each other's stuff. If you ever want to do a What Happened on Conan, hit me up as there are some pretty insane stories from that game's dev cycle. It was originally intended to be released as a companion to the Jason Momoa reboot movie, but when that film got pushed all kinds of crazy went down behind the scenes.

Finally, been waiting for this game on Flophouse, thanks Matt!
This needs to be released on a compilation with all the previous Golden Axe games.  Would love this on Switch!

I didn't know this game existed, but thank you Matt for giving me something to play this weekend!

Seriously, the centaur lady is what sold it for me.
"We gotta have a hot horse woman."

Matt: "This is the end of Golden Ax..."
Death Adder: "Leaving so soon?"

Still my favorite arcade beatemup, and one of the few to have an awesome playable centaur character.
A lot of theses sound effect are pulled from the conan films as well.

This game rocks.  The characters are all crazy, you can team up double-grab dudes with your friends, and (spoilers) Death Adder has a shield with a fire breathing lion head in it.  Used to play this machine all the time as a lad. So good.

Love the Reliving the War Davey Boy Smith Headlock reference.   I love knowing when on of my favorite youtubers watches another of my favorites

Stumbled upon this in a mame set a few years ago. Never once saw it in arcades, even when I was in Japan in the late 90s. Truly one of those lost gems that needs some serious exposure.

Someone probably already said this, but this game has been ported to the Astro City Mini arcade that SEGA released a year or two ago. I have one and that's how I was able to play it.

My favorite genre is quickly becoming Matt in the middle of some diatribe and something insane happens that wipes his mind of all thoughts

This was my favorite game for years as a kid. This holy grail arcade game that my brother and I would look for in every pizza parlor. Years later I had the WR speed run for it for a while lol. Such an amazing game.

13:08 Shoutout to Wrestling Bios!

Gilius Thunderhead and Death Adder are both so damn cool. It is a crime that Sega has just done nothing with Golden Axe in so long. I think the last time Gilius was in something, that wasn't a mobile game, was Sonic And Sega All Stars Racing Transformed.

3:02 “RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!” 🎼dum du dum, dum dum dum dum, dum, dum dum

Not sure it was already pointed out, but the "YAAH!!" sfx is taken from a Conan the Barbarian sequel.

More like the best game in the franchise that has never received a console release!
