I’m currently reading Salem’s Lot, so I’m already in the vampire mood

I saw your review, so, I paused so as not to get any ideas that might influence my opinion. So now,I have just finished this book. Spectacular!! I couldn't stop reading and I found the messages within this creative narrative deeply moving. This is my first Stephen Graham Jones book and I intend to read more.

I love the idea that only readers with sunlight lights will survive a vampire apocalypse.

This is my favourite book this year, so far, and stands out from most I have listened to over the last couple of years. Highly original. I'm usually bored with vampire stories. In fact, I didn't know this was one. I probably wouldn't have listened to it if I'd known. I'm a big fan of multiple POV's. I write that way myself. I like the sense of cinema it brings to a novel.

I stepped into literary horror with The Only Good Indians, and it was an amazing story. I've been seeking out more native/historical horror, so I'm excited about anything Stephen Graham Jones puts out.

Ugh, I still have SGJ's The Only Good Indians in my TBR along with Olde Heuvelt's Echo and and Hex. I really need to get on those. SGJ spoke at The Vancouver Writer's Festival and he was really good.

Glad to hear because I’ve already pre ordered the book and audiobook

I struggled with this one at first, but it really picks up. Etsy completely ruined the book for me though. It felt like he let a fan write the ending to the book and self insert.

I’ve only read ‘The Only Good Indians’ which I loved it but I’ve been put off reading more because a lot of people weren’t impressed with his others. I’ll definitely check this out though.

You're absolutely spot on about your assessment on SGJ and Paul Tremblay. I don't like the latter, but the prior does always frustrate me every once in a while with some of his books. I like the majority of them, but I find that at times his love of a topic like slashers, or some commentary within his plots do get in the way of the pacing and narrative. I still think he has the potential to be the next Stephen King level name for Horror, and hopefully this upcoming book further advances that.

More traditional than his other stories? It is a triply-nested epistolary novel! 🤣 I thought you would like this when you mentioned it was in your TBR, glad you enjoyed it. My video on it won't be until next week, but I really loved it. I would recommend reading SGJ's Mongrels next, it is his take on a werewolf story, but one with a whole lot of heart.

I admire the bend and flex to connect everything to Serious Readers. I'm one of those hit and miss readers with SGJ but I will be picking this one up.

I recently read The Only Good Indians after you had recommended SGJ in one of your videos. I will definitely be reading more of his books and really look forward to The Buffalo Hunter Hunter!

Great review man! This is one of my favorite horror novels of the year. My personal overall favorite SGJ book is My Heart is a Chainsaw but this one hits harder in the emotions.

I am glad to hear your review, and I love history and 1912, and Western era is definitely my favorite so I can't wait to read this book. I also got the Reformatory on my TBR. I'm currently reading the fantasy series powerless by Lauren Roberts

Thank you for reviewing this one! I am so excited to pick it up, eventually. I do love some of this historical horror that is coming out over the last few years, and I hope we continue to get more!

Looking forward to reading this. My experience with SGJ is very similar yo yours.

Enjoyed this video a lot! I've had The Buffalo Hunter Hunter on my TBR/preorder for a while, and you've just reminded me it's coming out. I love a good Western, and I love vampires, so I think I'm going to get on well with this.
