Off-Grid ALASKA Cabin Life – Firewood, Wood Stove & Winter Preparations

Winter is getting closer at our off-grid Alaska cabin, and there's still plenty of work to do before the cold settles in!
We start the day with a peaceful visit from a cow moose and her calf feeding near our cabin. Then it's back to work as Josh prepares our woodstove for another long Alaska winter.

Next, we're putting the finishing touches on another homemade boot rack for our entryway, sanding it down before moving it inside. Josh also tackles an ongoing problem with our hydraulic woodsplitter, installing a new pump in hopes of getting it working properly again.

With two huge piles of logs already hauled and stacked in the barn, there's still plenty of cutting, splitting, and stacking ahead. Josh gets busy cutting logs down to firewood length, making kindling, and organizing our winter wood supply. As darkness falls, the camera stops rolling, but the work doesn't! Josh keeps cutting kindling by headlamp well into the night before picking up the cleanup the next morning.
Life at our Alaska homestead means preparing for winter one project at a time. There's always something to repair, build, or maintain, but that's all part of living off-grid and doing things ourselves.
Thanks for joining us for Episode 70 of Life North of Normal, where we share our adventures between our off-grid Alaska cabin and Michigan homestead.
