Garnett as a fellow ADHD person, I totally get it. For me when it becomes to much I stop for a bit because the idea of starting is absolutely overwhelming.
Based on the title and the topic of discussion, I seriously thought this would be a sad video but Garrett has such a way of making everything feel joyful, and lets his viewers know that it’s ok to slip once in a while. I’m so proud of him.
Taking accountability is a huge step and you even went beyond that!! You got this Garrett!! If it makes you feel better this is literally coming from a recovering hoarder with a history of depression room💀
Honestly, going from house full of stuff to only one room as the sole fallen soldier to hoarding, that's massive progress. I have OCD and had to consciously stop myself from hoarding, so the struggle is relatable. Cleaning up??? Scares me 😭😭 You're doing greattt
The ultimate mask off ADHD moment. No masking whatsoever. Love to see it. I only get like this when I’m alone cause most people can’t handle the chaos.
Can I just say, considering Garrett’s past with hoarding and knowing he has ADHD, he’s done so well! Good on you for recognising the issue and doing your best to hold yourself accountable Garrett, you should be proud of how far you’ve come. Also it’s so nice to see people showing this side of things and humanising the experience, this does so much good in so many ways. Love ya Garrett!!
Those of us with ADHD feel seen and heard and with one of our own. We love you, Garrett. There’s always that room or closet. Or garage. Or shed. Or storage unit. Or all of the above. And just as we’re holding you accountable, you’re holding us accountable, too. ❤ Edit: This vid was also the perfect birthday gift. Just seeing your bright, happy smile is all the gift I need!
Dude you just helped me feel so safe and more human because I have been struggling to function executively for a few months to the point of hating food because eating felt like a chore, and I love food. My room looks like my brain and my closet looks like my suppressed thoughts. I'm getting closer to starting to clean it, which isn't much, but my brain is making progress. Thank you, Garrett ❤
Garrett, your channel is literally just a safe space to go to. I was diagnosed with ADHD a year ago, and every time I watch your videos, I feel validated. Thank you for your genuine and funny videos that make me feel like I’m not alone 🤍
As someone with ADHD who has accidentally overworked themselves, my executive dysfunction is worse than ever. My apartment is a mess and I haven’t been able to clean properly for weeks. I’m proud of you for going through it all and succeeding. Good job!
not Garrett gently reminding me to clean my depression room(s). For real, thank you, Garrett. You're timing is always perfect for me. You 100% just unknowingly stopped a major depressive episode in its tracks. I love and appreciate you.
Thanks for sharing this Garrett! This is definitely one of the biggest things I’ve had to deal with with depression. I don’t have the energy to deal with something immediately so I leave it, then as it piles up just the thought of trying to do it is so intimidating it makes me panic, and then it’s a spiral. The more I panic the more I don’t want to do it, which makes it worse and worse! I’ve been trying really hard to get better at this, but I still slip up sometimes. I’ve been trying a method of like, every time I leave my room I’ll bring out like 2-3 items. Something really small and manageable, that makes me feel accomplished. I think this can help with things like that room, maybe just go in there with a bag and pile some stuff into it, then just sort what’s in that one bag. Small, accomplishable tasks that make you feel good and productive are really helpful, especially when you realize that you’re actually enjoying doing it. Thanks for sharing the mud and being so authentic with us. I think stuff like this would make a great live stream too! Like a “let’s clean our rooms together!” And people can share their before and after photos and we can all be accountability buddies :) good luck with setting up your ghost room! Can’t wait to see more ^_^
I’m a mom in my 40’s with ADHD. Thank you for having entertaining content that even someone as far outside of your target demographic as I am can still enjoy and relate to.
Garrett could literally post a video of himself just sitting on a couch eating chips and I think I’d still be excited to watch it - his genuine personality makes anything interesting ♥️♥️♥️
Seeing this video and reading all these comments has made me so grateful to be in such a nice and supportive community. It makes me feel seen and understood, like i’m not alone in this. Thank you all so much <3
Speaking for myself and a lot of my customers (I own a housekeeping company) we have have rooms like this. We all have days and months like this. Don’t be hard on yourself. You are not alone. Find a way that help YOU clean the best. My mom picks up 10 things at a time. I start at a corner and work clock wise. Everyone is different. But even picking up 10 things a day works. My therapist said “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly”. Meaning it’s better to try a little than not try at all! You’re doing great! ♥️♥️♥️
I know this video is lighthearted but you shouldn't be ashamed of this at all- as someone who has also struggled with this, in part due to mental health issues and in part because I grew up in a similar environment, I see how far you have come. Your house looks so good. It can be hard for people to understand how overwhelming it can be and how easily things can get out of hand. This content is so helpful for people who don't realize how common of a struggle this can be, so thank you for making it and for being vulnerable with your audience. We are so happy for you!
