The Sky production team do this sort of masterclass better than any other I've seen. Getting articulate former pros talking about the technicalities of the sport is a joy to watch.

Nasser Hussain speaks so well, very articulate. Its a joy to listen to him.

who noticed that at the start Michael Atherton was commentating when Strauss got to his hundred

People forget what a great opener Atherton was. His stats do not match up to the greats (Hayden, Sehwag, Cook, Smith etc) but he played in a weak team in a period of great fast bowlers. He would average well over 40 these days. There weren't too many as brave as him when he played.

i was at that test match in Napier when Strauss batted to save his career. Marvellous innings under personal pressure.

Atherton, always spot on, great pundit and commentator

I dont even like cricket and i find this interesting!

What strikes me how humble these ex-england greats are like Cook, Hussein, Strauss & Atherton

modern  (last 25 years)  pace bowlers with the new ball on average would hit the stumps 15 times in 100 balls. ...... LEAVE WELL to survive the new ball.

Hussain and Atherton are brilliant

One of the best and most informative sports interviews ever. Honestly. 🙂

Could someone explain why a disproportionately large number of opening batsman are lefties:

Mathew Hayden
Justin Langer
Simon Katich
David Warner
Sourav Ganguly
Gautam Gambir
Shikhar Dhawan
Steven Fleming
Mark Richardson
Graeme Smith
Gary Kirsten
Dean Elgar
Saeed Anwar
Sanath Jayasuriya
Alister Cook
Andrew Strauss
Marcus Trescothic
Chis Gayle

I am not saying that there are not any right handed opening batsmen. Obviously Atherton, Vaughan, Gooch, Sehwag, Gavaskar, Gibbs to name a few. But more lefties of this position then any other I think proportionately.

Sky's cricket team are the best in sports broadcasting, it's just a pleasure to listen to them educate me about the sport

Wish the early 2000s era of cricket would come back for a week

I'm 65 and looking back, I'd say half the cricketers I know would refuse point blank to open the batting.

I don’t think we’ve been able to find an opening batsman to replace Strauss in test cricket and I’m not sure we ever will. He was outstanding.

I'm trying to think of a current test team that either of these two wouldn't walk into. Struggling if I'm honest...
Atherton, especially, was the epitome of a test opener.

4:42 my highlights for the upcoming season

Would love to have seen these two opening the batting together for England

Anybody ever read athers the authorised biography of Michael Atherton a brilliant book
