Scheherazade was the storyteller of 1,001 Nights, which is the story collection that Aladdin comes from.  The framing of the story collection is that Scheherazade was a concubine about to be executed by some prince or sultan for whatever reason, but she ropes him in by telling him a story with a cliffhanger every night for 1,001 nights so that he can't kill her or he'll never hear the end of the story.

10:39 THIS "ruined you for the rest of your day"? Knowing "If I Believed" is around the corner...your day is shot!

I’ve always interpreted this song as being meant to kind of cover their whole courtship, not happen in real time. Maybe that’s just me making excuses for the quick engagement, but it feels more like once they start singing, the song represents them getting to know each other over time.

Also, “They diverge away from each other but still land in the same place” cries in spoilers

“I forgot to do my job” no no the gazing at the screen with heart eyes was good

Setting it up as a comedy primes you to be emotionally devastated when they get serious. I firmly believe comedies make the greatest tragedies

I appreciate how Starkid goes 'Hoping you get things and expecting the universe to give them to you is insane, royalty is not inherently good, wealth corrupts but you better DAMN WELL BELIEVE TRUE LOVE IS REAL'

Guys, i don't think he's ready for the next one...

"How am I supposed to be normal about this show?"

It's Starkid. You're not.

Welcome!

Oh boy... The addiction is setting in... Can't wait to see if he catches the genius of how the nonsense of the beginning is meant to contrast with the past (before it all went wrong).

The original 'Arabian Nights' had the lyric: "Where they cut off your ear/ If they don't like your face./ It's barbaric/ But hey, it's home." That's how it was in the theater in its original run, but push back from arab communities forced a change in the VHS release... "Where it's flat and immense/ And the heat is intense/ it's barbaric/ But hey, it's home."

I love the fact that Mortius is just going through one of my favorite musicals and consistently being both confused and moved. Now I just Ride the Cyclone and my life will be complete-

You forgot the captions, my guy... you thanked starkid for their "fully captioned musical" in your first video, but then you forgot.

I highly recommend doing 'The Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals' next. It's got a good mix of comedy, heart, and horror (if you think about the implications)

I think you might have missed it, so here's the line from the last bit.
"A thousand and one `lifetimes` is not enough to spend; so let's make ours a story with no end."
They switch from nights to lifetimes, showing their increasing love for each other.

Arguably the greatest love song by Starkid is between a robot and a guy named Tootsie Noodles so yeah Starkid is weird but brilliant

Meredith and Dylan share TWO of the best love song duets in all of starkids shows. The other is in Starship (an outerspace parody of the little mermaid).

I'm so glad Mortius is starting with the peak of Starkid shows lyrically.

"How am I supposed to be normal about this show?"
If you are normal about a Starkid show, you're not normal.
It's normal to not be normal when it comes to Starkid.

No one is allowed to be normal about this show. Starkid always get you by being funny but seemingly shallow, BUT THEN WHEN YOU LET YOUR GUARD DOWN.,,,,.,, get gut punched with true devastation

naaah I really don't think starkid leads with the wrong foot in this musical. one of the things comedy does really well is make you more open and vulnerable, so the absolute wildness of the first couple of parts leaves you in perfect emotional state to be really affected by everything that happens in the flashback
