The documentary “Ziauddin” is a fascinating and rarely heard account of the early years of Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s life; from his childhood and adolescence in the religious city of Mashhad to the formation of his intellectual, cultural, and militant personality in his younger years. Using historical narratives, this documentary examines his family environment, religious upbringing, interest in reading and literature, and his first social and political experiences.

“Ziauddin” attempts to familiarize the audience with less-seen parts of the revolutionary leader’s life; from his simple childhood days in a clerical family to his entry into the seminaries and his influence on the intellectual and militant currents of that era. Also, part of the documentary deals with the social and political conditions of Iran in the years before the Islamic Revolution of Iran and narrates the role of this environment in the formation of his personality and life path.

This documentary presents a more human and intimate picture of the early years of Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s life; The years that formed his intellectual, cultural and combative foundations and determined his future path. "Ziauddin" is an attempt to understand the educational and intellectual roots of a personality who later became one of the most important political figures in contemporary Iran.
