Im Sommer 1944 fuhr ich das 1.Mal in meinem Leben in einem Zug mit elektrischer Zugförderung. Es war die Frankenwaldbahn von Saalfeld bis Lichtenfels. Der Zug E170, Leipzig-München, die Lokomotive E 19 12, Bw Nürnberg Hbf. Die Lokomotive war weinrot lackiert. Für mich war es ein großes Erlebnis, nachdem ich lange Zeit bei meinen Eltern gequengelt hatte, bei der nächsten Reise vom Vogtland nach Oberfranken über Saalfeld mit einem „elektrischen Zug“ zu fahren, anstatt die übliche ,kürzere Strecke über Hof und Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg zu nutzen. Ins offene Fenster gelehnt beobachtete ich die Lokomotive insbesondere in den vielen Kurven und war begeistert, als ich eine rote Lokomotive sah. Es konnte nur E19 01, E19 02, E19 11 oder E 19 12 sein. Der Lokwechsel war in Saalfeld, da der Zug von Leipzig bis Saalfeld über Gera fuhr . Wir waren in Gera eingestiegen . So habe ich es nicht gewagt, beim Lokwechsel das Abteil zu verlassen , um nach der „neuen“ Lok zu sehen. Erst in Lichtenfels lief ich nach vorn und hatte nun Gewissheit. Die Maschine steht heute im Eisenbahnmuseum in Nürnberg. Übrigens alle 4 Maschinen der E 19.0 und E19.1 haben mich später in Zügen gefahren, auf der E19 01 sogar im Führerstand von Nürnberg nach Würzburg und zurück am 13.7.1971; die E19 11 beförderte mich auf einer Sonderfahrt der DGEG im März 1969 von Hagen nach Altenhundem. Die E19 02 hatte öfter Züge am Haken, die ich benutzte später, als sie in untergeordneten Diensten in Oberfranken vor Nahverkehrszügen z. B. Lichtenfels-Coburg, Nürnberg-Erlangen, unterwegs war. Die E19 01 steht heute im Verkehrsmuseum in Berlin in der Nähe des ehemaligen Anhalter Bahnhofs.
