the long walk? how about try- ..oh nevermind.

One of the creepiest things my daughter picked up on quick was that the soldiers never spoke. Their only purpose was to kill 49 young men. Imagine how unnerving that'd be.

Them showing the murders was actually mandatory because Stephen King made that a prime condition of him signing off on this adaptation.

King wrote this story in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, and people seeing kids brutally murdered on TV and in photos was one of the formative experiences of his generation. It was traumatizing. The violence is integral to understanding not just the story but the historical period that inspired it. Seeing a character die off-screen or get shot in the distance isn't good enough. You have to bear witness to the horror of the violence itself.

Art’s scene always gets me …the acting combined with the swells of music just tears at my heart

“This movie is gonna get real emotional and upsetting.. I’m excited!” 😂

25:07 my take has been that for the three times he says “I did it wrong” it’s about 3 different things  he was wrong about his preparations for the long walk, he was wrong for leaving his wife and he did his last stand against the guards wrong

Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson warmed my heart and then broke it. I need to see them in another movie together ASAP. The chemistry was 🔥! This is my second favorite movie of the year, behind Sinners. They both made me cry a lot lol

One detail I love is that the movie peppers in moments throughout foreshadowing the paths both Ray and Pete will take by the end. Ray starts out driven by vengeance, he doesn't want to tell anyone about his plan and the only way it can succeed is if all the other Walkers die. But he still has so much compassion throughout: trying to help Curley, giving Hank his food, going back for Art and the more time he spends with Pete and the others, the more it comes out. Pete starts out just kind of drifting but once he starts making friends, he has something to go on for and, as big and beautiful as his heart is, there's also a part of him that will lash out if his new friends are threatened. He keeps a clear head around Barkovitch until he causes Rank's death and from then on, he's extremely harsh towards him pretty much any time he opens his mouth because Pete knows he could pose a risk to his group (as evidenced by him antagonizing Ray on the hill). And the one time he lashes out at Stebbins is when he comes for Ray's reaction to Harkness' death. I love that with Pete especially because there's this idea that overly kind people are pushovers when, in reality, kind people are the ones you don't want to make enemies of because they'll do anything and everything to protect their own.

Speaking of Hunger Games… same director

The acting performances in this movie 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Good job guys

Out of all the deaths for some reasons arts was the only one to make me cry, it just with the music, him talking about his grandma, and him telling them not to look LIKE UGH IM CRYING AS IM TYPING THIS

“Even made some friends” 💔 I lost it when Art was dying and didn’t stop crying until the end of the movie. This might be my favorite of the year!

I highly recommend the book (specially because the ending is different and bolder in the book tbh). The book was written as a metaphor for the Vietnam War. Kids dying for nothing, some of them volunteering for it. With that in mind I believe the message of the story hits harder.

I read this in 1986 when I was 19 years old and it really hit me hard, 40 years later we finally got the movie and it was worth every moment. This is the best movie of the year by far.

The ending is metaphorical.  Doesn’t matter if he lived or died, the ending means that no matter what he will be always haunted by the experience of the long walk.  In a sense he will always be doing that long walk forever.

14:17 He most likely caught dysentery or some kind of other food poisoning from contaminated rations or just general unsanitary conditions during the walk. He was going to die anyway of dehydration and other complications because that sickness doesn’t just go away on its own :/

And here I just learned that the main guy is Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son.

The fact that the first boy we see die is played by the same actor who was Jojo Rabbit feels like a GENUINE personal attack

I definitely yelled "NO! NOT JOJO!" when they deactivated Curly.

I hope this gets its flowers during award season, even tho the mom barely had 5 lines I feel like she deserves best supporting, Pete deserves best lead, best practical effects, the cinematography was incredible😭👏
