Hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, Minister of War, His Serene Highness, renowned cavalry general, adjutant general – all this about Alexander Ivanovich Chernyshev.
He served in a cavalry regiment, received his baptism of fire at Austerlitz, traveled to Paris with personal messages from Alexander I to Emperor Napoleon – and became one of the most successful intelligence agents in Russian history.
Why did 15-year-old Chernyshev catch the eye of Emperor Alexander I? What was his relationship with Napoleon like? What was his role in the investigation of the Decembrist Affair? Is it true that he was a proponent of the rod and was one of the main culprits behind Russia's defeat in the Crimean War?
Vladimir Medinsky will answer these and other questions in his new lecture.
