Don't look now, it's new enamel pins of Orpheus and Eurydice!

(But like actually please don't look now, you're nearly out of the underworld and if you turn around the pins will turn into mist and get yanked straight back into the house of Hades.)

Shout out to Hollow Knight, where according to the Godseekers, a god can be skilled swordsmen, a mage specializing in Soul magic, pregnant mothers, the living embodiment of light residing in a separate dream realm, a girl’s idealized version of her crush, and everything in between

I appreciate the use of Rise of the Guardians as an example here.  I've tried to explain to a couple people that the Guardians (and the Boogieman) are essentially a pantheon of gods sustained by belief and whatever their particular domain is (Wonder, Hope, Memory, Fun, Dreams, Fear, etc.).  People usually look at me like I'm insane when I bring it up, especially if we get to the part where the Man in the Moon is the distant creator god.

0:23 A history professor I had used to say that myths were “The stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves, to explain ourselves”

"Who are we? Once we were called the spirit of the mountain. Father sun, mother moon. Ancestral spirits, animal spirits. Jinn. Ghosts. The green man. Then gods, demons. Angels. Poltergeists. Aliens, extraterrestrials. Leptons, quarks. The words change. We do not change.

We are the universe. We are everything you think isn't you. You are looking at us now, through your skin and your eyes. And why does the universe touch your skin, and throw light on you? To see you, player. To know you. And to be known. I shall tell you a story."

11:10 Seems you had the same example in mind. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the gods were described as swarming like flies to Utnapishtim's sacrifice after the Great Flood. They were absolutely famished, and could literally starve to death without humanity to feed them. I think that's as close to Tinkerbell Gods as it gets in RL mythos.

It has been a WHILE since you used one of those monster fights.
IT'S AS BEAUTIFUL AS THE DAY I LOST IT

And than there is Bionicle approach - God is actually a bio-mechanical organism that characters live inside of as basically its cells with its devil figure being literally made as a cancer analogue.

I quite like the angle that gods can't be involved in everything because they have jobs, they literally are the natural processes of the physical universe. If the god of rain takes a vacation, that's just called a drought. It can help explain why powerful, benevolent, and aware deities don't just slam the divine hammer, because looking away can cause more harm. It works more for gods of physical phenomena rather than for human concepts like love, war, and civilization, but you can probably still get away with the idea that if the god of smithing isn't keeping an eye on every hammer than swords start coming out wonky for no reason. Or that the more conceptual gods gift mortals with ideas, like the Muses, the god of music making sure that songs are sung by zapping a bard with sudden inspiration.

The words "go from BIology to GEology" is such a creative euphemism for dying. It goes so unfathomably hard.

The god of whoop ass and the goddess of cans are a married couple of dreams.

Hey so literally like an hour before this video came out I told someone “man I hope someday Red makes a fantasy gods/pantheons video so I can study it for my own story” AND THEN I GET JUMPSCARED BY THIS NOTIFICATION

21:50 “A god of a city can’t just leave a city.” It’s kinda funny how my mind immediately flashed to heroes that are tied to specific cities. Sure Batman can venture far beyond Gotham into space or other universes, but he’ll always return to Gotham. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be a full city. Daredevil can go many places, but his roots will always be in Hell’s Kitchen.

16:09 the ravens' shirts say "if found return to Huginn" and "if found return to Munin"

My favourite God and world building lore is actually from the Disney show The Owl House. The setting of the show, The Boiling Isles, takes place on the Titan's (the god and provider of Magic) corpse. Literally, when you zoom out you can see the island is a big body laying in an ocean.

However, the Titan's consciousness is still aware in a different plane, and he is watching over the main character and his son, the last remaining titan, and offering subtle help when he can.

18:03 one of my favorite quotes about why the gods don't interfere very often comes from the webcomic path to timbala: "have you ever tried to feed an ant a drop of water?"

Red: “wait ‘till they hear what stars are”

Me, an Aurora reader: “EXCUSE ME?”

17:30 fun fact! Any proposed solution to trying to justify the simultaneous existence of a god or gods that possess all three traits and the existence of evil is called a theodicy. That's right, this topic is so hotly debated that philosophers gave it its own fancy term. The most well known and arguably most popular theodicy is the Free Will defense

love the hollow knight lore where moths prayed to a bigger glowy moth only to abandon it once a brighter light showed up thus rending the big moth god dormant until it decided to get revenge by turning everyone into zombies
