Very nice car Rob! Good work like always mate.

Another lovely video Rob, thanks. I’m also delighted that you found my suggestion of the Secondhand Scalextric Shop useful, yes it was me who sent you the link. I have also had excellent service from them and I’m glad you’ve given them a shout out and posted their link. I have absolutely no affiliation, I just think what they do is great. Anyway, it’s lovely to see such an excellent condition old car get a light wash and brush up and the rear wing completes the picture nicely. 👍

In 1979 my brother and I got a Scalextric 200 set as our Christmas present, and at the time it featured two of these cars, one in dark blue like this one and the other in red. However, I had a lot of issues with that set and eventually the manufacturers asked me to send it back and they gifted me with a new one. This project brings back lots of childhood memories.

That has come up really well Rob.

Really enjoyed watching this video Rob. What a great little racing car. That’s about my level of restoration to date, a good clean up, replacing missing parts, improving grip and lubricating. It’s great to see and really helpful if you’ve not done it before. It can be really rewarding doing a light restoration and some simple steps can really improve performance, looks and breathe new life into an old racer. They can be a lot of fun to run. We know you are capable of creating a rocket ship out of a clunky old car but I really enjoyed watching this and thank you for sharing a simple ‘how to’ improvement restoration vid. As always, thanks for sharing. Cheers for spreading the joy, knowledge and the fun. AW

Was great to see it running some laps at the end. Look like it handled well.

Loved this thank you  Rob 👍🏻🙏

Great short restoration.

Rob,

Interesting Car the Scalextric wolf F1, I used to use to race at Molesey Scalextric club at the time the Wolf was released. We used to compete with other clubs in and around the London area for some reason someone discovered that the wolves came with a different type of tyre. It was a very flat and square edged, it looked very similar to the tyres you’re moulding now, they had a shiny surface as opposed to the normal dull surface.

The same person discovered that there was a product you could buy from the chemist called “Zoff” was used to remove the glue after you’ve had sticky blasters on your on your skin, This product if applied a bit of this with a finger around the tire it refreshed the tyre and they became like a brand new tyre. These were really good grippy and we used to want them as the rears for our F1 cars that were the fastest cars that they used to race at any club at that time. People then went around the local model shops any toy shops buy out wolf cars to take off the rear tires off because you couldn’t buy them as a spare.

They would only last about five laps so if you had any restarts at any time everyone used to rush back to their pit box and reapply the Zoff to the tyres otherwise after five laps you had no grip and couldn’t keep up. We also had a lot of contact with Scalex factory at the time and I remember speaking to somebody in their marketing department and asking him about the wolf tyres and they had no Idea what they were how they were made or why they fixed them onto those cars but it’s was need the wolf cars that ever had them. I don’t know what the fronts were like because they were probably too grippy for the small wheel saloons at the time so it was really the rear tyres you were after.

Great to see old Scalextric cars being given a new lease of life Rob. Excellent video as always. Cheers Graham 😀👍🍺🇦🇺

See you at Slot Fest. 👍

Thanks Rob.  I remember this and was most exciited to get hold of it when it came out back in 1979 - the same year as the BMW 3.0 CSL you now have.   Mine was from the third floor of some well appointed department store in Solihull called Beatties (not to be confused with the model shops of the same name).  I can still remember the stack of Scalextric cars on a higher shelf in the toy area next to the cafeteria and, lo and behold, there she was.  Aged 16 ..... well, I just had to have it and I'd enough money and so I could and I did.   In real life the car started out with James Hunt as the driver but it was not compettive and this caused James to retire after the Monaco GP mid season.   Keke Rosberg took over to no great avail.

Otherwise, I've just booked for Gaydon again on Sunday togehter with my now 11 year old daughter.   I hope to once again see you there too.  😀

I restore a lot of this era of car so it’s nice to see some online content / exposure ! I’m 99.9% sure those rear tyres are the type sold by Sandbach Slot Cars - I’ve used a lot of them ! I also knew exactly what had happened to that guide when I heard the click … lol (look at the ‘thin’ weak spot / stress raiser in the front outermost corners).

Top shelf as per usual,
