Katara beating azula within months of starting to learn water bending when even aang struggled is the most ICONIC proof of how strong she is

so, if we don't count the avatars, the top three would be katara, azula and toph, and yeah, all of them are absolutely powerfull

When it comes to well written female characters, Avatar has that and more

I know we haven't seen much about Avatar Sonam but still defeating Tagah without chanelling the spirit energy through the staff should put her in this list

Katara is the most OP character in the entire series. She was the mvp of the original series, and was once again the MVP of the new movie. She brought the avatar back to life twice. A feet we have never seen in the entire universe before..not to mention if she wanted to, she could become the most lethal character by bringing out her blood bending

Toph should have been above Azula. Azula was skilled, but she also had the benefit of the very best teachers in the Fire Nation. Toph actually created her own form of earth bending even before she invented metal bending, and she was able to slow the entire library in the desert when it was sinking. We didn’t see any similar feats of raw strength from Azula. I definitely agree with Katara’s placement though, she was way more of a prodigy than Azula and we saw her do things with raw power that we’d only seen Avatars do before

Honestly of all the characters in the avatar series I’d say Toph is my favorite overall. Being born blind but becoming perhaps the most powerful Earthbender ever outside of the Avatars themselves is nothing short of awe inspiring. Plus inventing an entirely new subform of Earthbending namely Metalhending was and is an astonishing feat. I wouldn’t be surprised if Toph was also a master Lavabender too considering how extraordinarily powerful she is. But the main reason she’s my favorite is because despite retreating from the world into Foggy Swamp she still maintains watch over the world through her Sonic Sense ability

Katara has brought the Avatar and the whole GAANG back to life and Toph invented metalbending so it's a tie for me

toph is one of the strongest earthbenders that ever existed, there is no possibility of it falling behind the azula and katara. The toph who invented metal bending, she deserves to be top 3
