In my experience for cloud or enterprise servers, I have never had good experience with AMDs. However, I have never ever faced even a single problem with Intel CPUs. Contrary to what many think and may have Intelophobia, Intel absolutely outshines AMDs in this aspect. And to be clear, I have used Windows as well as Linux servers. Intel has never ever disappointed. Just sharing this experience here.

I use an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU on my gaming & productivity PC; couldn’t be more happy thank God!

Nice summarize, thx

very nicely put my boy.

I had Intel, then Cyrex, then AMD since then.

However, the CPU isn't the limit today. In this Ram environment...

I use a Ryzen 9 series CPU, smokes the crap out of Intel.
Finely!

In the graph at the beginning, you've forgotten about the Pentium 4 era, when AMD's alternative was superior. Of course, they later struggled after Intel released the Core 2 processors, but it's inaccurate to say AMD wasn't relevant until Ryzen's launch.

Ram training and not posting after an hour of waiting soured me on AMD. Bought my first Intel in 20 years after that.

You forgot to mention Intel Arc Xe integrated graphics which are a big upgrade over Iris Xe

Clarification... heat and battery life are not strictly CPU issues. (Also more cores is only useful to a point. The division of labor has to be managed and the more cores you have, the more difficult that becomes, and hyper-threading is also a topic of software design as well as hardware design--splitting the software tasks into multiple threads that the processors can handle independently instead of serially.) They are about hardware management. Yes, modern CPUs with internal clocks, and even without but with external hardware to do the same job, can clock themselves down during idle periods to reduce power draw. Peripheral hardware such as DVDs, bluetooth, and so on can be shut down when not in use, wireless receivers can reduce polling intervals or data rates, and don't forget screen dimming! It's a team effort, not simply the CPU itself. So don't get caught up in that one. Also, these tricks have been around in some form or another since the late '90s, with constant efforts to squeeze that extra five minutes out of a charge, or to reduce the consumption from a wall outlet (particularly important in datacenter applications where you have racks full of servers and 3% can mean thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars a month in electricity costs.)

More cores do not necessarily improve performance. Performance often flattens and then declines as number of running threads increases because the threads and or cores begin competing for RAM access.

Intel's advantage came from their leading edge chip foundries. That disappeared in the tranition to EUV. Their biggest mistake was not betting on ASML's EUV machines which allowed TSMC to take lead. Now Intel is betting on high NA EUV. Hopefully that pans out.

You can try comparing thae architectures of the Intel and AMD processors but keep in mind, it is not uncommon for Intel engineers to switch employment to AMD. My understanding of Intel is that if you aren't advancing up the hierarchy, you get fired or laid off.

As far as performance goes, that is also impacted by many other factors. This could include the OS used, the quality of the drivers, the low-level configuration of the CPU and peripherals, as well as the compiler used when generating the executables.

If you look at the die area, most of it is dedicated to the various caches. The AMD x3d has extra cache stacked onto the main die which probably helps explain the performance edge.

I do believe the Intel processors have more bugs than the AMD processors. I know the latest CEO is trying to reduce the number of silicon revisions in development. Employees get fired for more than two revisions. To be fair, every single piece of silicon has a list of known problems, and it is up to the chip makers to figure out how to mitigate them.

I was an intel fan for a very long time. I got tired of it because of them changing a socket type with every new model.
Also - Intel processors have become insanely expensive.
So I bought an used MSI Tomahawk B450 max ($90), 32 GB of RAM (also used, $170) and new Ryzen 5 5500 ($80)
Kept my GTX 1060 and SSD drives and I could not be happier : ) Decent upgrade under 400 dollars. And still there are Intel processors that cost as much
as my whole upgrade cost and still get outperformed by my Ryzen 5

@SkyperX97 4 months ago

The difference between the 2 is that one is cheaper and has better performance. 😂

I’m dropping this in here to learn from you guys who are more knowledgeable about computers than I am
I know a tab-bit but not as much as you guys

I just got a MSI Ventrue 16 AI ready Laptop with intel ultra 7 255H, 32GB of ram with the Intel ARC Graphics
Love this machine so far
I got it from NewEgg

So have at thee :3

@jootpepet 2 months ago

One is a lot more expensive than the other.
That's all i need to know

AMD owns the core silicon patents of the Intel CPUs. As part of the license agreement AMD is allowed to inspect Intel CPU designs and design functionally similar CPU designs especially new instructions so AMD will always be compatible and competitive with Intel CPUs.
