It is sad to see. I actually live in the town with the studio and everytime I drive past their building with the Volition logo i get a little melancholy

The punisher was an absolute favorite as a kid, so many wonderful executions to watch with fresh eyes.

Embracer Group demolishing about a quarter of the games industry as a Saudi oil money Trojan Horse is going to be one of the decade-defining features of gaming industry history.

I think what makes Volition's failure so sad is that in 2021, GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was released to a critical disaster in every way.
Volition had an easy slam dunk success story with their Saints Row game. Instead, it ends up failing badly that Volition bankrupts itself.

Im still beyond angry at what they did to IdolNinja

I used to be part of the Gentelmen of the Row modding team (specifically worked on the original mod) and I knew something was up whrn they got pissy with us. Some of those people helped us extensively when we would hit roadblocks while making our mods. I have most of their phone numbers still.

I will say that finding their tribute to Idol Ninja (the leader of the mod team) in the reboot made me both sad and angry.

SR2 will never be beat, the fact that it rivaled GTA 4 at the time is proof that Volition could've stand the test of time.

Hearing the protagonist talk for the first time in SR1 when I was a kid has stuck with me all these years.

"Hope you don't mind hepatitis."

11:29 "groundbreaking" in the literal sense of the word.

The Punisher game was so fun. I played it recently, and it was a great time. Still kinda sad to have Volition die. Saints Row 2 and  The Descent were also some great times. I guess it's time to replay some Volition.

2:00 fun fact: Car and Driver (the game) is directly connected to Car and Driver (the magazine)

there was a time that I viewed Saints Row as a series higher than GTA but then Saints Row reboot came out and screwed everything over - I have to say Saints Row 3 is my favorite game.

Red faction guerilla was pretty underrated for what it was

We all knew Saints Row was dead on arrival when we got a peek at it. The first red flag for me was when they renamed Rim Jobs. When even THAT was too spicy for the studio, it was pretty obvious that the decision makers had zero business even trying to make a Saints Row game.

Summoner 2 was such a wonderful game. Really invoked the fantasy otherworldly feeling back when I was gaming as a child. Clunky by today's standards, but the characters and world-building felt so immersive and compelling back then, I never wanted to leave.

Good news for Saints Row 2 fans who play on PC. There is an unofficial fan patch that really fixes up the game. It's called the Juiced patch and it's very easy to install

The way you always give devs their flowers by acknowledging them and their specific contributions really showcases how studios are not just names or entities they are a moment in time where people came together for a project

I thought I was the only one who remembered summoner 1 and 2.

I've Played SR2 a crazy amount of time. Once my buddy and I decided to idle around the city and see what animations start at certain locations. Idle in a club? you dance. Open field? Do some yoga. Idle next to a dumpster? lean onto it and smoke a cig.

Saints row 2 is the correct answer. As a teen when it first came out it hit way harder than any GTA ever could for me. Honestly still prefer SR2 over GTA5. The vibes cannot be beaten.
