Flydubai flight 1073 was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv when it made an emergency landing in Tabuk. But the question begins before the landing: What happened behind the cockpit door, and how did a routine flight transform into a crisis that originated from within?
The cockpit door is designed to protect the pilot from any threat from outside. In this story, I revisit the moment this design was reversed and trace what we know about flight FZ1073, from the onset of the emergency to regaining control and landing safely in Saudi Arabia.

Then, I examine the Saudi response in Tabuk: receiving the aircraft, providing care for the passengers and crew, and cooperating with the Emirati team in the initial investigation. I will discuss how the incident transformed from a news story concerning aviation safety into a political and media controversy, and why accounts differed before the investigation was complete.
