local Guernsey girl here 🙋‍♀️ thank you for this lovely ode to our heritage craft. the family who run the Tricoteur now are wonderful people who have safeguarded the traditional Guernsey and brought it to international markets (in particular Japan!). my mum used to work as a Saturday girl picking bits of straw and hay out of the wool used for Guernseys! for anyone wanting to knit one by hand, what is used locally is the frangipani 5ply guernsey wool, and the traditional pattern can be found Etsy. happy knitting ❤

I am a sailor in the Canadian Coast Guard and have sailed the entire Pacific coastline of North America all the way to the Arctic and the entire Atlantic coast to the Arctic as well. I have put in my dues out on the Grand Banks, the Flemish Cap, the Labrador Sea, and the Arctic Circle. My mother is an avid knitter and often knits in the style of Fogo Island off the north coast of Newfoundland. I definitely appreciate a high quality wool knit sweater, so thank you for making this very interesting, well made entertaining video. I love your fountain pen and journaling content and am glad that you are embracing your storytelling side. Well done.

This was fascinating. I especially love that they are handknit, as if you have borrowed a Guernsey mother or sister of yore to look after your warmth. All of the little design details that are also practical are sheer genius. Beautiful!

I'm a knitter who knitted a couple of Guernsey sweaters. It takes a lot hours, because the thin needles you have to use. But then you have something for the rest of your life. Frangipani is the brand yarn I always use.

I love your heritage videos! As someone who lives in a tropical country I miss wearing warm clothing and fashion is quite limited for me except when I travel. Keep them coming!

Another classic. When I was in the 6th grade I lived near Camden Maine. I would sneak onto a lobster boat with my cousin. I had a very heavy and super itchy wool sweater. It was very warm, but required a layer under it to avoid making me crazy with the itching. Now I want a Guernsey! I didn't remember that time in my life until your sweater video. Well done.

Thank you so much for that. It makes me look forward to Autumn when I can wear a Guernsey again!
I am British and had my first Guernsey when I was a boy of seven and have been wearing them ever since (I was born in the mid-60s). They kept me warm through my boarding school and university days and are one of my go-to sweaters (or jumpers as we call them) in Autumn, Winter and early Spring. I love the look, feel and fit of these jumpers, as well as their nautical associations, including a connection with the Royal Navy. Above all I have to say that I absolutely love the smell of the oiled wool, especially when the Guernsey has been worn faithfully over many years. As you can tell I very much share your enthusiasm for the Guernsey; in my case it is virtually lifelong!

Hello HJ. Great video. I have no less than 2 dozen sweaters and they are a big part of my wardrobe. Glad you made this video. There are those of us who gravitate to many different items. Pens, stationary, watches, sweaters, shaving accoutrement, cufflinks etc. This is the reason I love your channel. You get a variety of items. Great job. Keep them coming my friend.

You called these costly, but they really are a great value for what you are getting.
One of the greatest advantages of wool is that is keeps you warm even when it is wet (unlike cotton which is actually dangerous if it gets wet in a cold environment). That's why is was so popular for fisherman.
