Best live performance ever🤘🏼

I was 17 when I was at this actual concert in Montreal. Let me tell, there was nothing like it. It spoiled me for the rest of my concert experiences.

Geddy’s instrument is a Rickenbacker 4080/12.  It’s a bass on top and 12-string guitar on the bottom.  He plays guitar from Alex’s solo to the end while covering the bass register with the Taurus pedals.  He’s a multi-tasking madman!

I saw this tour in 1981. This song just showcases the multi-tasking talent of these guys. No loops,  no backing tracks. Just 3 insanely talented people.
Alex playing double neck and Moog Taurus bass pedals. Geddy playing bass, keyboards, Moog Taurus pedals and singing sometimes all at the same time.
And Neil being an entire percussion section by himself.  Greatest band in the world!!
RIP Neil.

Absolute masters of their craft. Completely unique and one of my favourite performances. A masterpiece that never gets old.

Three Canadian guys having fun!

Neil Died 01/07/2020. So, a bit over six years ago. BUT Rush fans will never forget him. I still remember when I heard. They told me to go home from work. What's with the stupid guy upset over a drummer? I couldn't explain it. But I still am. Neil spoke to me through his songs in a way no friend ever did.

The new drummer is doing an admirable job on their current tour. I'm surprised that she's so good. Seeing her perform parts that I used to watch Neil performing was good for me. Anybody that can flail around at that level of precision deserves all the praise they can get.

"This is live." Actually, I prefer this live version to the album. Not that the recording isn't great, but this version just takes it to a whole different level. They even performed it on the first night first song of their latest tour. It sounds fantastic, but they are in their 70's so it's got some issues. But they've done four concerts now, and it's starting to sound much better. By the end of it they'll sound like their old selves.

Technically, Neil is playing a glockenspiel - they have metal keys.  Xylophones, like the marimba, has wooden keys.  Those toy companies have lied to our toddlers for years, lol!!!

One of the, if not the best Prog Rock songs ever written. 🎼

I always enjoyed the Peart quote about playing these songs.  He described it as "solving mathematical equations while running a marathon."

Rush finally started touring again in 2026 after 11 years - 6 years after the death of their drummer & lyricist Neil Peart... They recruited a female drummer from Germany named Anika Nilles to play Neil Peart's drum parts (and a keyboardist Loren Gold)
And they opened their first 4 shows in L.A. w/ "Xanadu"... in a 3 hr performance each night... Link below to a fan-filmed live performance:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_Znu5F2XkY

This clip was from Rush's 1981 tour... the song "Xanadu" was originally released in 1977 on their 5th album "A Farewell to Kings".

Neil Peart joined Rush in 1974 and recorded all their studio and live albums, except for Rush's self-titled debut album in 1974 (Original drummer John Rutsey played on that record; he was replaced for the album's tour that year)
Neil started writing lyrics for Rush's 2nd album "Fly by night" in 1975... by the late 70's, he was writing all the band's lyrics (He did credit some individuals who helped inspire some of his lyrics) ... Rush has a total of 19 studio albums and 1 covers record. Officially, they have released 10 live albums to date.

Neil Peart did his final Rush tour in 2015... He passed away in 2020 from cancer (R.I.P.)... Female drummer Anika Nilles from Germany signed on in 2025 to perform in Rush's 2026 tour dubbed "Fifty something tour".

Neil Peart's drum kit included just about anything you can hit with a stick. RIP Neil.🤘🥁🎸

Rush is so King of time signatures. But, Seriously
...regardless of the technical aspects, the sound of Rush is flabbergasting!

God bless(ed) Rush!

Looking forward to seeing them again on October 10th, 2026 in Seattle! This will be the first time I see them without having to go to work the next morning!😃🤪😄🤪

A symphony of 3. 😎

One of my all time favorite bands and songs!!!!! I was hooked when I first heard it years ago…. Three musical geniuses performing masterpieces all through their careers.. RIP 🪦 Neil.. Definitely check out their latest videos on their current R50 tour that just ended here in Los Angeles on their four night stand. The new drummer Annika Niles is killing it. Amazing!!!!!!! Love this band!!!!!

They just started touring again last week! Four shows in L.A. with their new drummer, Anika Nilles. Each show opens with this song. Check out the performances. Still effing amazing! And Anika kills it!

You realy should be wearing headphones when you listen to rush alot of sounds you don't hear with ear buds 😊

Considered by most to be THE greatest Prog-Rock song.....of all time!
