For decades, Israel's foreign intelligence service has operated where armies cannot go. This documentary traces Mossad from the refugee camps of southern Lebanon to the uranium enrichment halls of Iran, following the operations that shaped the modern Middle East and the failures the service has never fully lived down.

In the early 1980s, Israel's northern border is burning. Mossad warns against a full invasion of Lebanon, arguing the country is too fractured, too unpredictable. The government invades anyway. What follows is the assassination of Lebanon's new president, a massacre in two Palestinian refugee camps, and the resignation of a prime minister and his defense minister. The war that was meant to end the PLO leaves Israel trapped in a conflict it never understood.

At the same time, on the Sudanese coast, a group of Mossad operatives is running a Red Sea diving resort. Tourists arrive for windsurfing lessons and evening parties. Behind the resort, convoys of Ethiopian Jewish refugees are loaded onto trucks and moved to the sea and the airstrips. Over nearly a decade, roughly 20,000 people are brought to Israel. Around 4,000 die in the camps before they can be reached.

Then comes Amman. Under pressure from Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver results against Hamas, Mossad attempts to poison the group's political bureau chief, Khaled Mashal, in broad daylight. The operation collapses. Two agents are captured. To save the peace treaty with Jordan, Israel is forced to hand over the antidote and release the founder of Hamas from prison. The target survives and becomes the movement's next leader.

And finally Iran. A new Mossad director reorients the entire service toward Tehran's nuclear program: unconventional alliances with Sunni Arab states, a computer worm that cripples uranium enrichment, six assassinated nuclear scientists, and a stolen archive presented to the world's press. The program is delayed by years. It is not stopped.

Featuring former Mossad operatives, intelligence historians, and regional analysts, this episode asks the question the service itself cannot answer: what happens when a secret service can win every operation and still not win the war?
