Hamburg, 2015. In the final of the Hamburg Open, the King of Clay Rafael Nadal came face to face with the one man who had been tormenting him all season, the Italian Fabio Fognini. Earlier that year, Fognini had done the unthinkable, beating Nadal twice on clay, in Rio and in Barcelona, becoming the only player besides Novak Djokovic to take down Rafa multiple times in a single season.

For Nadal, this was personal. He was going through the worst clay-court season of his career, had slipped out of the top 5, and Fognini clearly had his number. What followed was a fierce, emotional, and at times heated battle between two players who did not hold back, on or off the court. This is the story of the day Nadal fought to take back what was his.
