Great & honest reaction as always. BTW you were definitely reading the wrong lyrics.. 'sobra sobra" is an anthem song about Filipina empowerment  & women's rights.

Hang on... I think you might be reading the wrong song's lyrics. I don't just mean the Tagalog lyrics, even the English parts don't match with what she's saying. I don't speak Tagalog, so I looked up the translation and that doesn't match either.
Besides that though, I'm glad you reacted to this one; this one's my favourite of the 3 that have been released so far, and I agree that if they clean a few things up, this could do really well on the night. They need to get rid of the xylophone-like instrument though - it's not gelling or adding anything.

Apparently the national final had audio mixing issues, so that didn't help. But Carmelle is already a famous artist with pro self power and great hits (Morena is a good example, with deeper meaning when you look into the lyrics and cultural context) AT ONLY 19, and she has shown she can perform well live. Plus I've listened to this at work as much as Bangaranga, which is a great sign.

With the right staging and support, this could win. I'm really curious how Eurovision Asia will turn out this year!

I am originally from Philippines and live in switzerland, her cpstumes that she wore is a traditional costumes and the percussion instrument is called KULINTANG that is typically from southern part of the Philippines. She sang Tagalog/Filipino and English which are the two official  languages. Her english diction is not so good and that is why she is struggling. I also think she is nervous though and i agree with you and she needs to improve more. Sobra-sobra means too much.

I think you got the wrong Translation. 😅  This song is about Women Empowerment. Sobra-Sobra means "Too Much".

Where are you getting on the lyrics from? On Eurovision World the lyrics are completely different (and make more sense for a performance like this) Other than that I agree with a lot of that you have to say and if this was Eurovision Europe I would be saying this is winner Potential, but I have no clue how this will land with Asians, though I do think this will do well with the Rest of the World Vote, but even then we dont know if I'm overestimating how much influence Eurofans (or potentially a Typical Eurovision Europe Audience) will have on the Rest of The World Vote

Hey Georgia, you’re right in saying that the overall package for this needs work but there are some very strong ingredients already here.

This national final seemed to have quite a few audio issues, and the backing track being almost entirely absent for the first few bars of Carmelle’s song was probably the most severe, so I’d say she was wrong-footed by that at the beginning and did well to recover as much as she did. Also, while I’m not an expert I suspect the outfits are inspired by some Pacific Island culture that is relevant to the Philippines and to Carmella in particular, so there’s definitely something to it beyond appearances.

There’s a solid base there, and the glow up ceiling for this is very high.
