A journey in search of Hokkaido's hidden hot springs.
Tokachi-gawa Onsen is a popular tourist destination famous for its "moor" (peat-derived) hot springs.
While there are many hotels in the area,
the rates tend to be on the high side...
Amidst this, we discovered a budget-friendly spot
offering superb, 100% free-flowing moor spring water straight from the source.
We enjoyed the fresh water in a charming, Showa-era retro atmosphere.

At the Ban'ei horse races,
two people—currently on a three-race winning streak—
place a wager on a butadon (pork bowl) meal!
Did they pick the winner and get to feast on that pork bowl?

Finally, we headed north to a quiet campsite nestled in the woods.
The biggest challenge when traveling in Hokkaido
is trash disposal...
No matter where you go, it is hard to find a place to throw away garbage,
but this campsite was an affordable spot
that solved that problem for us.
