A specialist in self-neutralizing anomalies isn't the most depressing job you can get at The Foundation, but Jesus Christ it's got to be up there.

‘It was a dark and stormy night.’

Yep, that typewriter definitely hasn’t written before.

'Âme' is the French word for soul. Which makes the fact that Ame was empty somewhat more heartbreaking.

“The typewriter responds with a single smiley face :) “

Nooo, don’t manipulate my heartstrings like this!! 😭

The sentient typewriter made me sad. At least it found a friend before they were gone.

The first one about the child always makes me laugh. It's so anticlimactic that this immensely powerful being would die from something as mundane as starvation. That's the point of the article of course, but it's pretty well written so it works.

I always chuckle at the idea of how dumb the Foundation operatives who ran felt when the child surfaced and it was just dead.

SCP-3352 is such a wild piece of writing because every single horrific detail is derived from something completely mundane. The one anomalous element in the whole disaster is that thousands of people weren't engulfed by a rolling cloud of bone-eating acid.

That last one was ROUGH 😭 the small detail of the medical requests getting more and more severe each time had me sobbing 😭

"the refinery broke before the beam did" - i see what you did there. CADIA STANDS!!!

That last one made me cry on the way to work. I work at an in-patient care facility for disabled kids in foster care and it... Hit hard.

Rory dying the night before her big day was entirely predictable, but keeping the DVDs made me tear up.

The sentient typewriter making hacky fiction & “moving on” thinking he was the next Lovecraft is pretty on the nose

Miller breaking protocol by referring to an SCP by her name is a subtle moment of storytelling. He valued her enough as a person to defy his organisation's rules and recognise her humanity. She died knowing that someone truly cared about her in her last moments. There are some jerks working at the foundation but Miller's definitely one of the good guys. I imagine him and 4999 would get along pretty well.

I actually was brought to tears by that story about the refinery and the beam. Idk why, maybe just because i study these kinds of industrial disasters and the loss of life they can cause, but the idea that a single flimsy miracle saved the lives of a city full of people just hit me right in the gut.

I think the last one, the girl who can purify water, but that ability eats her up like leukemia, would be basically similarly depressing even in Broken Masquarade cannon.
Yeah, the family could at least know and have some clousure, but it's like watching someone wither from essentially untreatable cancer that first presents as "worlds most bland superpower"

@Monk9619 1 year ago

as a chemist the steelbeam was nerve wrecking, HF (Hydrogen Flouride) is one of the most dangerous things you can have and having that much of it being leaked into the air made me really nervous

That little girl is one of the bravest we've seen. How she kept her sense of humor to the end

@Son.D.Lollipop 1 year ago

That muppets one is amazingly written. Miss this kind of SCP articles. No moral of thr foundation to be questioned. Just some horrific thing that dosnt need to be overly explained and is just there to be kept secure.
