honestly it feels like most people are so ready to hate that no one is ready to even try anymore.
like society is getting scared to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. which I got to this thought from personal experiences.

Haven't started the video yet but after seeing the title and runtime i already know we gonna eat GOOD

Maybe a hot take and based on experience, but I think that people avoid improoving and studying because they'll have to admit for real (and not just as a quick wah wah my art sucks vent) that their art lacks knowledge and practice. They don't want to admit and be honest with themselves that they don't actually know how perspective or anatomy works, they prefer going around it and limit themselves to their absolute comfort zone. Going out of that comfort zone means making a lot of ugly drawings, that's how we improove, but they want to skip that step anyway which you can't, so they go back in their comfort zone. We should and have to learn to lower our ego during practices, both to not crash out at our mistakes and to critique ourself constructively and "objectively".

(Edit, typos) Remember, there's always a reason to keep improving, even if it's little bits over the course of your whole career.

I wanted to learn how to make a font for my webcomic just because I wanted to stand out, so I started learning typography. Then I learned it was a whole new art form. Now I'm making ten whole fonts (with a friend) and a whole translatable language for the comic's magic system.
Is it insane and exhausting to do? Definitely, absolutely. Some of the fonts also suffer a little bit in readability because they're stylized (don't worry, they're not Jokerman levels of unreadable.) But I'm far happier doing that than stagnating in an area that I needed improvement on.

I used think I couldn't get better because I was too used to passively learn, in school i could get As and Bs half asleep but art which more active stumped me so now im trying to be more active in practice

I think people just think they can say whatever they want and get away with it because it's the internet, not caring it’ll comeback and bite them in some shape, form or fashion. But after that this video was motivating and on time for me because I was getting frustrated with myself and was trying to figured out ”My drawing sucks”  hurdle, especially as I’m trying to adjust drawing digitally.

15:40 this made me pause my drawing for a sec😭😭
(btw I agree with many of your takes, especially this part. like what's the point of being mean/bully others if they didn't do anything wrong??)

Thank you so much Mocha for this helpful and lovely video!!! Even a few months ago before I started working (on design) for my Steven Universe OCS is that I was terrified of trying something new since I wanted to stay in my comfort zone…but then I realised that it didn’t help me improve and that for any progress and success to happen I needed to become humble and realistic, like failure I see it now as a beautiful and needed opportunity for us to grow! Also I really love your drawing of Jackie them looking like a candy and starburst rockstar, their hair is just legendary!!! Roxlynn the embodiment of flames and their eyes are so beautiful and amazing, and with Towa I love their hair, immediately I thought they looked like if LUSH (the bathbomb store) had a child and they look and are epic!

I loved this! It's so refreshing to hear someone talk about these topics, and I agree with your takes 100%. I really wish more people were a bit more mindful, especially when it comes to online "roasting".

Tbf half the time, it’s younger kids who haven't learned how to phrase actual criticism yet so it just comes off unnecessarily harsh. But as for the rest... research in social psychology constantly shows that online aggression usually stems from low self-esteem or people trying to feel better about themselves by lowering someone else's status (which is a whole separate issue!)

Either way, thanks for speaking up on this! Also, your energy is amazing and made this entire 30-minute video fly by like it's nothing!

Hi there

22:55  REAL AF...

so often ehen i tried to learn anatomy or smth i always feel like i want to give up art and that i dont learn anything really from it. I still learn passivly by consuming sometimes art tips, or other art related videos... But i still struggle hard with hands, feet etc. And i just made weird blobs/triangles my style
Although sometimes i do try 1-2 tips ive seen before and either stick around or not. Cuz im drawing more anime style/stylized style and no muscelar men, but thick robes and long hair, it doesnt really show. But to be fair, thats the style i wanna draw in

And i yet i want to improve, get better at it to make more crazy stuff... But urgh, why is sitting down to learn just so... Frustrating that it makes me cry and want to give up everything... Haaah, ig i have to find what works for me

Amazing video and to top it all off WTDSIK MENTIONED 🩷
