I don't know when people will learn that at some point the world's empires are made up of mixed populations. What's special about Bulgaria is that it is a fairly old empire that has survived to this day, a mixture of very ancient peoples. But today's Bulgaria has developed as a population based on a local Balkan population from the Paleolithic and it predominates in the genes of modern Bulgarians. The Huns gave this population the name Bulgarians and this is very well recorded in ancient documents and chronicles, they just need to be read and not interpreted as anyone wants. We can talk about Turks in Europe after the 7th century when the Western Turkic Khaganate briefly conquered the steppes of southeastern Europe. Before that, the Huns may have had a proto-Turkic origin, which does not mean Turkic. The steppe confederations of the Turks included many Indo-Iranian tribes of Sirmian origin. The Hunnic Union is a typical steppe confederation very similar to today's Russian Federation, nothing more different. Saying that Bulgarians are Turks is like saying that Americans are Mexicans or Russians are Turks. The fact that there were proto-Turkic elements in the 5th century in the Hunnic Union and later in the first Bulgarian state formations does not make Bulgarians Turks. The classification of Bulgarians as Turks, despite the fact that genetics shows the exclusively European origin of both the ancient Bulgarians and today's Bulgarians, is purely politically motivated and absolutely unscientific! Bulgarians are more Germans and Scandinavians by blood than Turks, this is a scientific fact! Turks appeared in Europe much later than Bulgarians in European chronicles. No one calls Bulgarians Turks anywhere, unlike Hungarians for example, but they call them Scythians. Then why all this nonsense about Turkic origin. Even if there were Bulgarians in Tadjikistan during the Hunnic era, the Tadjiks themselves are not perceived as Turks, but as an Indo-European people.
And finally. Please, if you want to be a scholar saounding, do not interfere with political issues in your films, especially when you talk about foreign history and origin you don't understand very well. This with Macedonia is a bit redundant. If we have to talk about the origin of today's Macedonians, then it is the same as that of today's Bulgarians, based on the local Paleo-Balkan population. Everything else is politics, and the worst kind, the one that divided brotherly peoples and destinies. On both sides of the border, people still live as cousins, but some call Macedonians and others Bulgarians, and for some Macedonian historians, the Macedonians have nothing to do with the Bulgarians, although they have set out to erase everything Bulgarian from their history, Bulgarian traces can still be found there. You yourself noted that one of Asparuh (Isperih actually which means "king Ispor" - rih is a gothish title of a king) brothers - Kuber (in some chronicals as this of Duclja - Kriss) settled in Macedonia, and later Krum annexed these territories. Before that, ancient Macedonia never annexed the lands of the Republic of North Macedonia, which were then part of the Thracian Dardanian Kingdom. As you noted again, the Thracians never managed to become a unified state, despite the attempts of the Macedonians, Romans, Bulgarians, Serbs and Turks :) In fact Macedonian Region become under that name durig othoman era, before that Macedonia was called only todays Northen Greece, in some perod of History even today town of Bulgaria Plovdiv was part of Macdonia, today it is region of Trace. So it is a quite spicy question. If you want to do a film for it go on, but first read more about Macedonian question, please! To compare Austria and Germany or Russian Federation andUkrain with Macedonian question is qute unfare because it is very different!
