House private prosecutor Erwin Matib pushed for the presentation of the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, during the 36th day of the impeachment trial on Thursday, October 8.

Matib argued that the documents could help show the couple’s total income, which the prosecution intends to compare with their declared assets and wealth in examining alleged unexplained wealth.

“Ngayon, nabuksan na po ‘yung BIR box. Huwag na po nating pigilan ang ebidensya, Your Honor,” Matib said.

The defense objected to displaying the actual tax return documents on screen, citing data privacy concerns, but clarified that it was not opposing their presentation as evidence.

Presiding officer Senate President Chiz Escudero ruled that the prosecution may present tables and summaries of the tax records but may not flash the source documents on screen.
