I’m not a dining plan fan, but I see why people would like it. I don’t go to theme parks to spend all my time eating, and I don’t want to have to pick the most expensive thing. I’d rather put a food budget on a Disney gift card and then use it to get whatever I want.

One of the things that helped me beat the dining plan, and not feel like I was overeating every day, was to plan my trip with a very early arrival time on my first day, and a very late departure time on my last day. That way I had more time to spread my dining plan meals over. Doing that made it pretty easy to use everything up. And then if you have anything left on your last day, get some food to bring to the airport or on the road if you’re driving.
My other tip would be to consider the snack credit as basically your breakfast. There’s a lot of good ‘snacks’ in the morning that are essentially a full meal. Like the crepes or Mickey waffles.

I would love if next time you did this challenge, you did no alcohol allowed as I think that's the biggest factor in this. Like if I have a teen or a person who doesn't drink with me, would it still be "worth" it

I know I’m weird for this but part of the joy of my trip is keeping track of my dining plan orders and seeing how much I can beat it by 😅 it’s definitely not for everyone but I love it

FYI for those with kiddos:

As Molly says, when kids use QS credits they have to order off the kids menu — WHEN THERE IS ONE! If a QS location does NOT have a kids menu, they should be able to honor your credit for a standard entree and drink (non alcoholic bc kids). This can be a great way to get (more than) your money’s worth, particularly in Magic Kingdom, where there is no alcohol available at the QS locations anyway.

I’ve done this multiple times at both Casey’s Corner and Sleepy Hollow within the past year. Obviously it is up to the Cast Member’s discretion but if you ask nicely they definitely CAN do this!

I agree with Molly! Even though you can “beat the dining plan”. I’d rather enjoy snacks instead of worrying about ordering the most expensive things. Also, we mostly visit in the summer and it’s so hot you only want ice cream. 😂

Molly, that jacket is OUTSTANDING. I had that pattern as a "Bed in a Box" in the 90's - sheets, comforter, pillow shams, curtains... my childhood bedroom was cool AF lol

I like your challenge. We use to maximize but as we got older we decided it was more important to get what we wanted. The dining plan is more about budgeting for us.

My favorite revelation from using the QSDP last summer: A handful of QS locations don't have a kid's menu, so kids order from the regular menu. We used a ton of kid's credits at Casey's on chili dog meals for the whole family. That allowed us to save our adult credits for locations where our youngest would eat an adult portion, and we could use the drink credit for an adult bevy.

I’d be interested to see this with a more “realistic” way either trying to get closer to the 197 to show you what you’d be eating to break even with the plan. Or do a day where you eat what you’d normally eat on a day at the park and say how much it was

Great video. As fun as it is to think about how to get the most for your money to meet or beat the plan. I get the plan more so it's just one less thing I have to worry about budgeting for, and nickel and dime-ing during my stay. It's already paid for, just eat whatever sounds most appealing, one layer of stress removed from a vacation where I'm trying to remove all stress, and just live in the moment. The dining plan absolutely helps me achieve that.

I'm ok with the idea that I probably spent more at the end of the day on my food than I would have otherwise, for the tradeoff of not having to think much about or worry about that aspect of the trip.

We've utilized the dinning plan on 2 separate trips. The 1st time, we saved ridiculous amounts of money. The 2nd time, we overpaid slightly (less than $200 for 3 adults on a 12 night stay). But there's a freedom to having the plan that people might find worth paid a little extra. On both trips we found ourselves much more willing to experiment and try something new when the food was already paid for and cost wasn't a factor.

The first time we did the dining plan way back in the olden days, it included appetizers (sit-down), meals, drinks, desserts, 2 snacks a day, tax, and gratuity. We had tons of food left at the end of the trip. Definitely didn't mind using 2 credits at Hoop Dee Doo Review.
