Bonsai techniques: Branch selection and preventing inverse taper by Bjorn Bjorholm

Bonsai Empire

In this video, Bjorn Bjorholm talks about branch selection and how to prevent inverse taper in a bonsai. It is part of a video series to celebrate Bonsai Empire's 25th anniversary.

Bonsai Empire began in 2000 as a small online platform dedicated to sharing the art and knowledge of bonsai. Over the years, it has grown into a global hub for bonsai enthusiasts, offering high-quality tutorials, in-depth courses, and expert guidance to support learners at every stage. We are so happy to celebrate our birthday with 25 bonsai masters from around the world - the videos will be uploaded late 2025.

Thanks for this lesson. Learning to deal with too many branches as we reduce the size of a tree during the initial styling is so important. I learned the hard way not to remove too much at one time when working on pine.

Respect for Mr. Bjorn! In a complete coincidence, I've found out he will be at a Bonsai show here in the Czech Republic very soon, I hope I will be there!

WOW, I have been nervous about starting bonsai because it seems daunting to begin but this was one of the ideas I was struggling to conceptualize until now. Very informative video. I believe I understand how to develop the tree, at least enough to begin my journey! Awesome stuff!
