One big thing missed.  And yes, it might sound silly at first.  But it is physically more important than anything.  Breathe and breathe freely.  It does  many beneficial things. Try it everyone. And focus on it when practicing every time.

Picking hand is fine, its the fretting hand that cramps up!

For me the brakes were the anchored thumb in any form. Learned floating thumb technique and now not only do I have zero issues with this, I also improved my muting. Liberate the thumb!

Cramps getting nasty!  Muscle groups working against each other is what it FEELS like - so this sounds like a viable remedy and a good habit to get into.  Thanks a million for your neat vid and excellent communication

Right hand never bothers me.  It’s the Left that cramps.

Great video—thanks. I actually figured this out on my own about 20 years ago and stopped relying on my thumb for support.

I suggest training your right hand with the song caught somewhere in time from Iron Maiden

I bent my extended thumb while you were explaing and became aware of my my palm loosening. Literally the first trick I learned and I was doing it badly. Super keen to put this into practice. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Good advice, nicely explained. After 40 years of playing Bass I've learned a new tidbit of wisdom I can apply right away, thanks to you.

I used to cramp up after playing all night and I put it down to sweating and lthen cooling down between sets, Then I started chewing cell salt tablets before the gig....problem solved...they prevent cramps

Started playing bass 6 months ago. Glad I’m not learning this late!

Wow!!!! This is the best bass tip ever in my lifetime!!!!!

It took me years to find this "trick". Youtube communication is a great thing.
In addition I would suggest angling the bass neck so that the index and middle fingers are hitting the strings at the same spot on the fingertips. So if your index finger is slightly shorter than your  middle, for a right handed bass player the neck should be angled upwards. To find that angle or get close, hold your plucking hand flat on a surface and draw an imaginary line from your (in this case) right hand fingers, index to middle. It will look like this /  roughly. Match that angle in the upward tilt of the bass neck. This further reduces stress on the forearm tendons because the middle finger is not grabbing more stirng than necessary. You gain speed, finger to finger sound consistency and you should not tire as easily. It takes practice and possibly a change of your guitar strap as well but the benefit can be felt.

I'll try that, thanks

Congrats on hitting 30,000 subs. Great channel.

What a fantastic video as always have a good weekend also my favorite youtuber 😊❤

Very interesting exactly what I'm trying to work on

Thanks for the video... Your tips are very useful for me

Yes!  Another thing that helped me was to stop tucking my ring and pinky fingers up into my hand, but instead let all 4 fingers hang down naturally.  I can see that you do this, and most really good bass players do, but it's a common impediment for young bassists.
