I love the "You were always dead" reveal because there were signs for it. Back in RE7 saying if you can see Eve it's too late, the Bakers having a heart to heart with Ethan near the end, and this game Lady D saying "going a bit stale" when tasting Ethan's blood. All signs were there, we just didn't know we had to look for them

I would just like to point out that Ethan was so determined to save his wife and daughter, that he canonically dies THREE SEPERATE TIMES. This man is powerful, don't fuck with Ethan.

The way Ethan says “goodbye, Rosemary,” will never not make me cry. He’s not just being forced to come to terms with his eminent death, he’s being forced to say goodbye to the daughter he just went through hell to save. His final moments are filled with regret, knowing that he won’t be around to support his family. He’s clearly scared to die, but even after giving literally everything he had to save his wife and daughter, he still dies feeling he let them down. It shows what an incredible man Ethan is, but is genuinely heartbreaking.

People always compliment the editing and the green screen style, but it wouldn't work nearly as well if you didn't have the INCREDIBLE eye for shot composition that you clearly do. This is masterwork, Biz. You're one of a kind in your lane

i think the reason i adore Ethan’s quips is because they feel like what an actual 40-something year old dad would say after a traumatizing event. it’s not super well planned, it’s not super sexy and hard. it’s just a guy who feels really cool in that moment.

Fun fact: "cadou" is Romanian for "gift". So the parasite is a "gift". It's a clear follow-up to RE7's "accept her gift" constant theme about Evelin's mold.

The Ethan being mold reveal, while being set up in 7, was also lampshaded due to his status as the protagonist. Of course Jack, Lucas, and Mia can heal and regenerate, they're infected by the mold.

But us? We're the POV character. We have to survive because otherwise the game doesn't happen. And that's why the reveal is so good. They show you the "welcome to the family" clip, and your entire playthrough of 7 and 8 up to this moment immediately get recontextualized by the revelation.

I honestly think Ethan is one of RE's best protagonists. He's just a suburban dad who somehow caught up in the bioweapon trade, he's not macho-military-protag-number-seven. He's an ordinary man who was just unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now he's fighting weird werewolf zombies in Eastern Europe trying to save his dismembered daughter.

something I don't think people talk about enough is how good Todd Swoley's performance was in this. he put so much emotion into Ethan's final moments that even watching it here made me tear up. "Goodbye, Rosemary" and his soft sobs as he looks up at the megamycete and detonates the bombs... bravo. it was perfect.

30:18 to be honest, Heisenberg could also still represent Frankenstein’s monster. Because he is a creation from mother Miranda that she intended to serve her. But Heisenberg, having a lot more intelligence than the other lords, and a sense of self, decides to go against her, just like how Frankenstein’s monster chose to go against his creator. There’s even a parallel with the fact that Miranda actively abandons all her children, including Heisenberg, which is similar to how Frankenstein abandons his creation. So Heisenberg is a interesting blend between Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s monster.

I always loved Ethan as a character, he’s one of my favourite protagonists in the entire series. People hate on him for being “lame” but that’s what I love about him, he’s just a normal dad trying to get his daughter back and I think that’s really admirable

He’s also unintentionally funny asf

This was kinda an unpopular opinion that i noticed in the last video, but i think Bieneviento’s house was terrifying. i think the dolls were scary enough as it is, but the fetus twists the “purest” aspect of this story: rose. She’s a baby, an innocent, and her image is contorted into a grotesque monster that ethan is forced to run away from. The combination of psychological and body horror really made it one of the scariest areas to me

Dude the voice acting for “Goodbye Rosemary” always hurts, like holy shit dude

I think my favorite part about this game is the absolutely insane work Ethan's VA did. He really sells the "determined father running on fumes", especially when he's yelling at Miranda during the final confrontation.

So many of Ethan's lines are filled with so much emotion, and I adore him.

Bro casually popped up on my home page one day months ago and now I just sit around and wait at the door like Scott pilgrim for his package waiting for a new video

“I will release a bio weapon of my own, it comes in a can, it’s called whoop ass” Is the most unrated line I think I’ve ever heard in my life.

“It’s okay, Rose. Daddy won’t let the weird fairytale monsters get you.”
And he kept his word 😭😭😭

11:06 "Don't bring him back, if I see Wesker's son again, I'm releasing a bioweapon of my own. Comes in a can, its called whoopass."
This absolutely took me out oh lord 😂

i think my favorite aspect of this game regarding ethan is how he gradually goes from terrified of his surroundings to Fucking Pissed and ready to beat the shit out of anyone who blocks his path to restoring rose. compare his reaction to the lycans in the first areas of the game to when that airplane machine fucker jumps in his way, looming and ready to attack. the first, hes screaming and panicking. the second, he just tells the thing to get out of his god damn way and starts throwing hands. its awesome.
