Guitar Meets Science

The Darkness, led by the flamboyant Justin Hawkins and his brother Dan Hawkins, defined the early 2000s rock scene with their unexpected rise to global superstardom. From the multi-platinum success of "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" to the disastrous production of their second album, we explore the band's meteoric rise and devastating fall. We’ll uncover the details of their million-pound studio budget, the departure of bassist Frankie Poullain, and the substance abuse issues that led to a public collapse. The story follows their journey through rehab, a battle with cancer, and their triumphant reunion as one of the most resilient acts in glam rock. Kindly like and subscribe - it really helps this channel a lot. I do appreciate it!

Kind folks who want to support the channel - I'd rather you actually have something in return for it. Something killer. Something that puts you heads and shoulders above the rest. So I have this:
This VST plugin, The Stereo Sound Extractor, is BADASS -I coded it up from over 10 year's hard research. It won awards. Now you can own it for the paltry sum of $29. Yup, I'm basically giving it away: https://burninguitfiddle.gumroad.com/...

Thank you for shedding some light on The Darkness

..... I was 16; I had an '88 manual 4-speed Jeep Cherokee with the darkness cranked all the way up on my new Circuit City sound system. My girlfriend sat next to me, and life felt carefree and unpredictable. Now, at 40, I struggle just to exist.

I remember at my cousins wedding reception in Leeds, The Darkness were playing at the Leeds festival that day and before their gig, they booked into the same place where our wedding was. The bride asked them for a photo and they literally told her 'fuck off'. They were very arrogant.

It seems like almost all my Youtube recommendations and music history videos are filled with AI slop. Hearing a small vocal flub in the track reminds me you're a real person doing this all yourself and is such a relief. Thank you for such a crazy output with good information. Well worth the subscription.

I freaking love the Darkness! Glad Justin got it together in the end!

It was gonna crash sooner or later. These boys were wild. I remember watching their first video "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". I just sat there in silence for at least 10 minutes. Wasn't sure if I loved it or hated it but it sure got a strong reaction. When I saw them at a festival, it became clear that I liked them.

Permission to land was my last bike ride to the mall to get the CD. Still rocking it today. My old man liked the music but couldn’t stand Justin’s voice. Rip to my fallen youth

I think part of what plagued The Darkness, was that Justin took it all too seriously and was known for lacking a sense of humour.

I lived in London at the time. Early 2003 I worked with an old Scottish guy and we would regularly drink together at the pub. For months he would tell me, "the Darkness, mark my words the Darkness will be huge." Then seemingly out of nowhere the Darkness were indeed huge.

Man, I listened to ‘I believe in a thing called love’ a million times. Can still remember where I was when I first heard it. Love me some ‘The Darkness’.

Saw them at Wembley Arena in their first flush of success (the second night as they’d sold out the first night).. they were actually really good. Best bit was Justin playing guitar on the back of a giant white tiger suspended from the roof, which then flew out across the audience 😁

Seen them a few times. Absolutely kill it live. Great show

My 75 year old dad got real into this band recently. The newer stuff, not even the first album. Didn't know they were still chugging.along.

Saw one of their first gig in East London! I was signed to an alternative indie label and it was all about Beck, and big beat/ samples mixed with live … I thought the band were tight and great performers but I didn’t understand what was going on 😂… I thought it was like a hair metal tribute band, but my label head assured me they’d be massive but advised me to keep making Beck like tracks with samples and to not to play next weeks promo show with a guitar behind my head ! A funny and weird time back then. Great videos btw love your channel. Also Justin comes across as a sincere soul these days, def an element of humility ! In all honesty if the band wasted some major label cash I ain’t exactly crying into my beer over it! 😂 keep up the good work :) 🙏😎
