I’ve played World of Warcraft for more than 11,000 hours, and in that time I've found myself trying to skip large parts of it to get to end game.

In this video I take the rose tinted glasses off and review the version of World of Warcraft I started on back in 2007. I replayed The Burning Crusade with my friend Jim, who had never played WoW before. We tested everything up to our first raid together, all in an effort to find out, was World of Warcraft really that good?

I discuss:
■ Why Classic WoW’s slow levelling can be both rewarding and incredibly frustrating.
■ Drop rate quests, weapon skill, overcrowded servers and the mechanics that made progression feel painfully slow.
■ Why spending so much time levelling can also make your character and the journey feel more meaningful.
■ What a completely new player noticed about Azeroth that I had stopped seeing after thousands of hours.
■ Why travelling across the world can make destinations feel more important.
■ Why dungeons are still my favourite part of World of Warcraft.
■ What playing with random players taught Jim about the WoW community.
■ How other players can make an MMO feel alive while simultaneously becoming an obstacle to actually playing it.
■ What The Burning Crusade changed about questing, travelling and dungeon design.
■ What happened when we finally reached level 70 after almost 200 hours.

And much more...
