Fast‑food giants expanded aggressively:
• KFC
• Oporto
• Red Rooster
• Nando’s
They offer:
• cheaper bulk supply
• national advertising
• delivery partnerships
Small charcoal chicken shops struggled to compete.
Urban development
In many suburbs:
• rents skyrocketed
• old shopfronts were demolished
• new developments favoured cafés, sushi, and franchise chains
Charcoal chicken shops were pushed out.
Health and lifestyle shifts
Some consumers moved toward:

• salads
• “healthier” branding
