So nice to finally put a face to these videos! Keep it up 👍🏻

Liked, subscribed, and utterly BESOTTED!

This is perhaps THE BEST video breakdown/analysis/appreciation of this masterpiece of a novel that I have had the pleasure of viewing. I love that you don't approach it as a horror story and rank and compare it to that genre, as it was never intended to exist within that company. Though the book has had its fair share of attention over the years, it has definitely been overshadowed by the cultural phenomenon that the movie became. Not that the film is undeserving of all the accolades and attention, God forbid! It's a masterpiece in its own right, of course. But the novel exists on a whole other level. It was the first novel I ever read voluntarily (age 14) and I think I've read just about ALL of Blatty's work since. He could be hit or miss at times, but The Exorcist and certain other works of his rank among my favorite books of all time. Anyone who ONLY sees the movie without reading the novel is really missing out in my opinion.

Please, PLEASE continue on, and do a full individual analysis of both The Ninth Configuration (all you need to know going in is that one of the main characters is an astronaut named Cutshaw) and, especially, Legion (which I view as a symphonic poem compared to the full blown symphony that The Exorcist is). With The Exorcist, these three works constituted what Blatty considered his Trilogy of Faith.

My one warning to you (based upon what you have said here) is that if you were disappointed in the film version of The Exorcist compared to the novel, seeing the film version of Legion (Exorcist III) will likely trigger a full-on rant.

Please keep being you, and doing what you're doing.

Great video, Nika! 👍 The pooch sleeping in the background was comforting to see.

Agree that the approval seemed edited out of the book. It was offstage and instantaneous. Making it seem that Damien misunderstood the Church’s stance on the matter. But if that’s the case he should have been surprised and we should have seen it.

Nice video, lovely dog.

Blatty seems to have fleshed out his theme of sacrifice once he got to direct the Ninth Configurations really great film worth checking out if you liked his approach here

William Peter Blatty addressed the question of suffering in Legion too. Pretty good book, I thought.

I read the novel many years ago, and many books and articles about the novel and the movie, and one thing I've always been puzzled by is:
Given that Blaty was a Catholic who wanted to re-awaken people's belief in God and The Devil… Why is the possessing spirit here some strange Middle Eastern  demon of the wind that nobody had heard of?
Apart from the old priest saying "there is only one." to mean that this name given to the minor demon is meaningless, that it is actually The Devil...
I don't understand what is gained thematically or dramatically by saying the child is possessed by some low level demon instead of The Devil.

God I love your videos so much.

My favorite character in the book is the detective who just wants someone to go to the movies with. Dude stands zero chance of solving the murder of the film director AND nobody ever goes with him to the theatre. Sad.

I’m confused about Danien’s mother and I’ve read the book and seen the movie.  If she was in a public hospital why did she die in her apartment?  They let her out?  Seems like the mistake was  letting her leave the hospital not in putting her there. What was Damien’s role in that.  I have to go back and read that part since I don’t remember it.

Well, I have a new crush now.
