It really is a shame those Japanese King King knockoffs from the 30’s are lost, I would like to see them for myself to see if they are so bad its good.
Peter Jackson's original '96 Kong script would make a terrific animated direct to DVD movie in the vein of Turok (2008). Pulpy, adventurous yet bloody.
Honorable mention—— THE MIGHTY PEKING MAN aka GOLIATHON. Filmed and released in 1977 by Shaw Brothers who was far better known for their kung fu flicks.
12:04 Anyone else expecting it to zoom out and for the Thames Television theme to play or is that just me? 😂 Also with this same movie, with Robin Askwith in the lead cast and the dirty jokes in it, I'm shocked it's not called 'Confessions Of A Queen Kong'
The Yeti film was also releases as Yeti - The Big Foot in some markets. I remember seeing the film crew in Toronto where they were shooting scenes in the downtown core. In one of the crowd running scenes people in the city thought there was an emergency and ended up running with the fleeing crowd. They were also going to film the Yeti on the CN Tower.
My, those were awful. The Lost World was a staple during the 60s when I was a kid. This was back in the days when the newspaper contained a TV guide with a description of whatever movie was being shown. The description was always the same for The Lost World; "Flabby fantasy."
Fun fact: King Kong has a sort of spiritual spinoff in the form of a movie called The Most Dangerous Game. And I'm not talking about Pokemon Go. It's an adaptation of a short story of the same name (except for in UK where it was called "The Hounds of Zaroff) but using the same set as King Kong.
Great video highlighting some of the King's impersonators that never quite measured up to the real deal.
I thought you would've talked about Mighty Peking Man, but it makes sense that you didn't (outside of presenting some clips at the beginning), because outside a couple shoddy effects, that one's a pretty good movie, all things considered.
