On October 4, 2026, Defense Minister Koizumi inspected Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures, which were affected by heavy rains from Typhoon No. 25, from the air. He also visited the Takeyama and Narashino bases to commend the Self-Defense Forces units that had been engaged in disaster relief activities.
The Defense Minister offered words of appreciation and gratitude to the members of the 31st Infantry Regiment (Takeyama), the 117th Training Battalion (Takeyama), the 4th Engineer Group (Zama), the 1st Airborne Brigade (Narashino), and the Air Defense School (Shimosizu) for their tireless efforts in the harsh conditions, including searching for missing persons, rescuing isolated individuals by boat in flooded areas, and clearing fallen trees to restore power as quickly as possible, all while facing the risk of secondary damage.
The Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure they can respond immediately to any situation in order to protect the lives and peaceful lives of the Japanese people.
