I had you on as background sound while I was making supper and my son asked me “dad, is that one of your friends?” I guess it’s the soft tone of the voice, but it made me laugh because of the old saying “metal music is a bunch of gentlemen using an outlet to vent.” Or something of that nature but it’s just funny how a tatted up dude’s voice would call a child to think it was one of his dad’s friends! Great content, sir!

The Mitch Lucker memorial concert was simultaneously one of the lowest points and highest points in the history of deathcore. We lost a legend but seeing so many of his peers pay such amazing tribute to him was incredible.

Born in 96, old enough to remember the very end of the Myspace era. What a shame.

Also excellent video and documentary!

Thanks for the great video! I was in Antagony and later went on to play in All Shall Perish. Back then, we didn’t really have the words to describe what we were creating—it was just a fusion of influences that felt natural to us. It’s always fascinating to see how deathcore evolved over the years and became its own distinct genre. The journey from those early experimental days to where it stands now is truly something else.

You might need the bands that were in this video. I’ve gathered them all.

Early Deathcore Influencers:
Antagony
Despised Icon

Rise of Deathcore:
Job for a Cowboy
Suicide Silence
Whitechapel
Carnifex
Winds of Plague
Chelsea Grin
The Black Dahlia Murder (influential but not strictly Deathcore)
As Blood Runs Black
All Shall Perish

Myspace Era Bands:
Bring Me the Horizon
We Came with Broken Teeth (experimental cybergrind)
Annotations of an Autopsy (early Deathcore/beatdown influence)
Suffokate
I Wrestled a Bear Once

Honorable Mentions and Related Scenes
A Day to Remember (not Deathcore but part of the broader scene at the time)
Attack Attack! (crabcore influence)
Bless the Fall (emo/post-hardcore influence)

NGL this channel got me into Deathcore. Now i cant drive 1 minute without doing vocals in my car. Thank you xTheYan

The vocalist of Suffokate was the manager of the HotTopicI worked at years ago

Pretty sure Suicide silence and Jfac were listening to All Shall Perish in 2002-2004

My first deathcore bands were Despised Icon and All Shall Perish around 2003 or so. Crazy that it's been almost 22 years since then.

I’m 40 this year. Growing up with grunge, into nu-metal, and then straight into early deathcore, and being in Australia so tapping into a lot of the deathcore happening here like I Killed The Prom Queen, The Red Shore, Boris The Blade, Make The Suffer, Thy Art, man honestly it was such a time to be alive. Didn’t even know it was happening. It was just, there. I dunno if it dropped off, or it just evolved, and now as time proves, we get nostalgic and everything old is cool again and revives. Like nu-metal. And now I think deathcore is evolving with slam now coming along, bigger breakdowns, heavier riffs, heavier vocals. We will see where that goes.

I forgot about total deathcore's blog that was a great hang out for me back in the day, completely slipped my mind.. hell I stopped listening to heavy music for awhile there too. I'm glad to be back, your videos are a great refresher and filling in old blindspots.

12:00 goosebumps

Despised icon is the Definition of deathcore! I mean come on nobody combines hardcore and deathcore so perfect. An Alex Grind is so fast it's crazy as hell

Great video man. It was such a privilege to grow up in this era. I am 33 years old and was alive and found all these bands the same way you did it sounds like through my space and going to shows. Long live MySpace deathcore! It is really cool to see the younger generation bringing it back.

The nostalgia in this video, man.

I was born in the 90s and deathcore was (is) my kind of thing that I grew very fond of.
What a crazy time the mid 2000s was. I remember Bmth's first album that had me hooked for weeks and I hated how Bmth looked back then, haha.

Deathcore in the early 00s had a very special Style which is like completly gone now, but i also love the new Deathcore from today alot.

Myspace was wild back then too, deathcore just grew as the internet grew with people, crazy how they evolved with each other.

Seeing those old band MySpace pages really brings me back. Great video bro, really enjoyed this one. 2007-2011 truly was a special time with great memories.

This is really well done! You have made a lot of quality videos on the history of Deathcore. Any chance you will be doing one exclusively on ANTAGONY in the future?

Went to highschool with JFAC. It was insane seeing them practice and as a local band, compared to what they are today.

They used to practice a block away from me when they first started.

Started going to deathcore shows in 2006 when I was 11. I will never grow out of my love for deathcore and all associated bands. The energy in the scene when it was new, it felt like there was electricity in the air. Great music, great scene

Love it all, and wow the nostalgia of this video! I think we have a pretty wide spectrum between heavy, filthy sound aaand technical, polished sounds. I'm just grateful for the buffet of sounds and pits!
