A five-night road trip to the extraordinarily beautiful Isle of Mull, detailing some of the places we overnighted. In many ways Mull is campervan heaven. I also look at the sleeping bag I've described as "the ideal campervan sleeping bag."

I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. Always trying to re-capture that early VW vibe. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine. I write a monthly column in the Scots Magazine and my work can be found on Substack.

I visited Iona in the Spring, not long after my Mum passed away. I'm not a religious person, but found myself really moved by it. As I sat on a bench at the Abbey, a lady came and chatted so kindly with me as I wept. Maybe there's some truth in the belief it is a "thin" place. It certainly felt that way to me that day.

Beautiful Isle of Mull. I really enjoyed sharing your journey Cameron. I visited Mull with my wife 11 years ago and we will return. We did the journey that you enjoyed and were privileged to be able to get to Staffa. Your vlog has given us a reason to return and experience the Inner Hebrides once again. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and Iona has a peaceful aura that is difficult to explain but wonderful to experience.

Love Mull. Thank you for sharing your trip. Great memories. I also proposed to my now wife on the Isle of Mull! A must do when we visit is to take the wee ferry onto Ulva/Gometra. Highly recommended if you haven't visited! Very peaceful. Another tip for a Staffa visit is to take a fast boat trip out from Tiree. Beat the crowds, and enjoy a more personal experience😊

Great video. We were in Mull last month and returned to Fidden Farm: one of our most favourite spots in Scotland and therefore the world. It's right up there with Glen Brittle on Skye. Staffa is a great trip too. When you return, visit the Ulva Ferry Aire: totally up your street, The only blot on the trip was we had to bail on going to Oban because of the weather and got off the island via Lochaline with the associated longer drive.

I was on Mull earlier this year. Crossed from Lochaline to Fishnish in a very strong wind having been battered by winds at Glencoe Mountain. I had intended to go first to Calgary Bay but stopped at Crannich , which was sheltered, to get a peaceful night. I visited Calgary next day then stopped at Fidden Farm and then Loch Buie before driving to Tobermory and crossing to Ardnamurchan.
Glad you found a good sleeping bags. My personal choice is a duvet. I hate the restrictions of a sleeping bag, they feel like a straight jacket

Aw, what a timely vlog Cameron. I should have been heading there this Sunday, but courtesy of Storm Amy, I won't be. I would even have stayed at Salen Bay campsite. Fingers crossed for later in the week. I have to have my Mull fix. Thank you both very much for whetting my appetite in anticipation. I enjoyed that.

Cameron, Thanks for this new video, we’ve been thinking about a trip to Mull, you have made the decision for us. As to your sleeping bag, since moving back to a Camper from a Moho, we have sidelined the duvet for our sleeping bags, like yours mine is full length zip, cotton lined and very roomy, I use more like a duvet while Gill is cocooned in her half zip tight coffin !!. Great vid pal hopefully see you on in the passing. Billy

Great video, as usual. We had a fabulous week on Mull a few years ago - stayed at the Pennygown Farm Campsite which had just opened. Facilities were great as was location - about half way between ferry and Salen. Can't wait to go back and maybe try out some of the places you stayed.

I love Mull and great footage of this beautiful island. I can see the benefits of a campervan on Mull. Being a caravaner I would not take my van to Mull. However the one and only time I used a campervan ( an old Bedford) I borrowed it from a friend went and climbed Ben More and then he luxury of having a wash and change at the foot of the hill after the climb I will always remember. Then onto Tobermory for an evening out. Brought back memories Cameron. Loved the video and the sleeping bag sounds great.

Don't bother trying to book a ferry from Oban next week or from Craignure until Tuesday the week after, Mull Rally starts on Friday night and runs until the small hours of Sunday morning. Best route, slightly longer is from Lochaline to Fishnish, no booking ahead, turn up and go.
